Second-favorite team

The Hate-watch thread made me start to think about this--who is my second-favorite team? (No, my second-favorite team, not my second-favorite first baseman.) I haven't come up with an answer to this question for myself yet. My younger son has generally also liked the Cardinals, partly because he was a fan of Albert Pujols back when Albert Pujols was Albert Pujols.

Feel free to comment, saying who and, if possible, why.

My second favorite team is the Blackhawks.

I misunderstood. Though it was about baseball teams. I change my choice. My second favorite pro team is Minnesota Wild.

My second favorite team is whoever's playing the Dodgers on a given day.

Substitute Yankees for Dodgers and you have mine.

My real second favorite is the Jays for as long as they keep their current manager and pitching coach. (Both have ties to my home town.)

Since this is a baseball forum I meant baseball teams. But people can say whatever they want, even if it means hijacking a thread by going off-topic in only the third reply. ;)

Probably the Indians. I was a big fan of Kenny Lofton back in the day, and they're such a fun team now I always root for them when they're not playing the Twins. Just wish they could get over the hump.

I will go with the Brewers (although not strongly). In other sports there is a regional rivalry (hate Packers) but not in baseball (for an NL team).

Anybody that runs up the score on Miami now that Jeter owns the team. Can't really think of any team in particular I have as a second team. There are a few manager/FO types that I do not care for.  You can't really root agaist them too much as there are players who did not have much of an option and have to play for these organizations  I do hate to root against a player who is not the north end of a horse facing south.

I grew up in Orlando, Florida in the 1960s and 1970s. Was a big Twins fans because they held spring training in Orlando back in those days, plus Minnesota kept minor league teams (A and later AA) in Orlando during the rest of the season. That aside, the Atlanta Braves were always my favorite team growing up. In those days, there still weren't any MLB teams in Florida, so Atlanta was the closest team in the region. In addition to that, all their games were on the radio and later on TV via cable. So, I was a huge Braves fan. All these years later, my allegiance has definitely shifted to Minnesota (although, I have to admit, I was torn during that 1991 World Series!). I still follow the Braves, although not nearly with the same dedication or passion that I do the Twins.

When Ichiro was in Seattle, it was Seattle. Since then, I'm not sure I have a true second favorite team. There are teams I dislike less and I'll root for AL central teams in the playoffs but ....

I dunno. I always feel bad for Mets fans.

Or even before they switched leagues, for an AL East team. Don't think there was ever any kind of rivalry between the Twins and Brewers, was there? Now, at best it is a proxy for some lighthearted Minnesota vs. Wisconsin ribbing.

My second favorite team is the Cubs because I grew up watching them on WGN with Steve Stone and Harry Caray and my cousin used to live on the north side of Chicago so I'd go to Wrigley Field when I went to visit him. Yes, I was a Twins fan and Cubs fan growing up...

In general I'm also a fan of teams that haven't won in awhile (because being a Twins and Cubs fan I have sympathy for their fans) so I was rooting for the Royals a couple of years ago when they won the World Series. But it gets annoying when a team I wanted to win at first does so too often (see Red Sox and Giants) because I like to see different teams win. Kind of a socialist baseball fan I guess...

My second favorite team for many years has been whoever is playing the Yankees.

Even if it’s the White Sox?

I have a friend who is a lifelong Dodgers fan who is now in hospice. I am hoping that she lives long enough for the Dodgers to win the World Series this year.

So at the moment I am a Dodgers fan.

My family refuses to either accept or understand that I am no longer a Dodgers fan.

I have not liked the Dodgers since the 1965 World Series.

Of course. And I'd be a White Sox fan before being a Cubs fan too.

So would I. We must be related or something.

Dodgers. Other than NYC for 2 years, it is the only city I have lived in that had a team. I have always detested the Yankees, mostly because of George Steinbrenner. (And then the acceptance and spending on roiders). That and the too many gloating fans that I have known. They might have the most fans, and win a poll of Americas favorite team, but they would also win a poll of Americas least favorite team. When I moved here about 6 years ago, I loved to listen to Vin Scully... "That ball was hit on a line that you could hang two weeks of clothes on...." , it was like therapy. I like the ball park tons more than the plastic look and feel of Angel Stadium. The incessant volume and noise of promotions annoys me at both, the Angel Stadium is still louder and more crap and worse than Dodger Stadium. They are robbing us of the sounds of the ballpark with all the BS they bombard us with, these days. As the Twins sucked , and the Dodgers got richer and better, it was nice to have better baseball to root for. It is mostly great to see the Twins play out here every year, even if they get swept.... kinda. Plus, I need a national league team. Because of different places I have lived, I also like the Nationals.

The Dodgers turned into the West Coast Yankees.  Between the HUUUGE payroll and hiring Torre and Mattingly for managers, the organization really turned me away from them.

For whatever reason (probably because the Yankees were the Yankees, and the early 1960s Mets were pathetic) my older brothers rooted for out-of-town teams.  Obviously, I followed in the footsteps of the my Twins-fan brother.  But my other brother liked the Pirates, and I can't help embracing them a bit, too.  That served me well because I was "all-in" with the Roberto Clemente 1971 World Series and the "We Are Family" 1979 team (that also happened to include Bert Blyleven).  The Pirates are not much of a factor now, but seem like a good National League favorite.

I hope Andrew McCutchen made some of these last few years more tolerable.
He's been one of the highlights of MLB for a number of years in my book.

Absolutely!  Thanks.  That's why talk (probably unrealistic) in another thread of bringing him to the Twins has made me giddy.
