sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 How are the Vikings doing? Preseason must be underway. But i haven't bothered to look it up yet. And the Lynx? Aren't they in midseason? What about the current Tennis Tournament? Or golf? I never know what to think of subpar golf. Apparently its for the birds or something. Anything Wild about their offseason? Did the Timberwolves draft someone yet? Is Kevin going to finally get them over the hump? I suppose i will look these things up eventually, but off hand, i wouldn't know. Because i'm a Twins fan. (feel free to google Kids in the Hall Doors fan to see the inspiration, albeit the intro suffers somewhat for a midwestern aversion to expressing contentious emotions... and by default, i am actually a fan of them all...) Feel free to watch that inside the parker from Friday again if you aren't excited enough... Diamondbacks:Pitcher: T.J. Mcfarland (L) 1. David Peralta (L) DH2. A.J. Pollock ( R) CF3. Jake Lamb (L) 3B4. Paul Goldschmidt ( R) 1B5. J.D. Martinez ( R) RF6. Chris Iannetta ( R) C7. Brandon Drury ( R) 2B8. Gregor Blanco (L) LF9. Adam Rosales ( R) SS Twins: Pitcher: Bartolo Colon* (R ) 1. Brian Dozier ( R) 2B2. Eddie Rosario (L) LF3. Byron Buxton (R ) CF4. Eduardo Escobar (S) DH5. Mitch Garver (R ) 1B6. Jorge Polanco (S) SS7. Max Kepler (L) RF8. Chris Gimenez (R ) C9. Ehire Adrianza (S) 3B Come on in fellas, the weather is fine! * I finally figured out why he is called big sexy... It is a fragrance for men styling, right? Otherwise i am proud of myself for resisting the temptation of making the entire game thread intro jokes about his name. I've not been banned yet. But i do wish to jump on the banned wagon at this point.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 That lineup thoCouple of hot bats moved up to 2 and 3. Garver gets a start. Max and Eddie are the left hander facing the lefty. It'll be good for them? Perhaps not the strongest we could put out there, but neither is this game 7 of the world series against the Dodgers for a 50 year grudge match, where Dozier can point blank demonstrate irrefutably that they should have traded for him. Not that i know anything about how to assemble a pro baseball lineup, nor self deprication for that matter...
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 TJ McFarland starting for the Dbacks for his first start since 2014. His K numbers are 4.7 K/9 this year and 2.6 K/9 last year. This should be interesting.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Mere days since Mollie said Buxton wasn't moving up in the order. Kid impresses boss.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Interesting lineup for the Twins. Too bad about Sano's injury. He could play 1B in this scenario, and Garver could catch - leaving Giminez on the bench. Been nice to see the Twins win a few interleague games here, they're all important at this point. Logjam in Wildcardland.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Some talk about the Core Four, but I like to think of Rosario and Polanco as part of the nucleus. So I think of them as the Magnificent Seven...but who will be the Seventh? Garver, step to the plate. Although The Hildenberger might already be there. He seems like a knife specialist. Any thoughts? Classic or reboot apply--I see Buck as the Yul Brynner/Denzel leader, and Sano as the McQueen/Pratt bombastic comic partner.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Special shout out to SampleSizeOfOne for always being ready to step in on short notice and get a game thread up. Thanks!! Which reminds me...we're still looking for volunteers for August 26, 30, and 31. Let's get this month taken care of. PM Chief and Chitown. You can DO it!

jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Nico Goodrum would look good in a Twins uniform about now. Plays anything but pitcher and catcher. Better pop than Adrianza, and also a good base stealer. Pretty sure he's a good outfielder, too.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Not a sexy start for Bartolo.

Just selected a mode of address fitting my tone of comment. Nor wish i to say anything bad regarding game thread intro writing. Someone's gotta.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 No damage, but a long inning.
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 No damage, but a long inning. No damage? Bart just added 29 pitches to his arm's odometer, so he only has about 12,000 left until he finally retires. At 87.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 This lineup gets very power-challenged very quickly without Sano.
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 The Buck, dealin' from the three hole. Exciting to see him do so well.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Garver struck out yesterday. Now, a walk. Hasn't put a ball in play. I'm calling a home run, his next time, to maintain his Three True Outcomes status.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Get the ball in the outfield, Max. kthanks.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 This lineup gets very power-challenged very quickly without Sano. You wouldn't want to construct a roster with only OBP for a whole season. But aside from the two catchers in today's lineup, we have guys who all can put pressure on the opponents once they get on base and another ball is put in play. We don't have to play station-to-station.
