My dog, Buxton can talk.  No...really. 

My friend Ashbury was visiting recently, but didn’t believe that Buxton could talk. So Ash asked him, “What’s on top of a house?”

“Roof,” said Buxton.

Ash wasn’t convinced. So he asked Buxton how sandpaper feels.

“Rough.”

Ash had a bemused look on his face..."I think I see what you're trying to pull, here, Chief.  But OK,  I'll play along.  He turned to Buxton and, with a wry smile, asked "O.K., who was the greatest baseball player of all time?”

“Ruth.”

With that, Ash gave us a little courtesy laugh, and walked away.

Buxton looked up and me and said "He's one of them saber guys, isn't he.  I should have said Bonds."

That's a Chief joke, all right. My dad used to tell it but the punchline was "DiMaggio?" Chief adapted it from the version that was current in his own youth, where the punchline is "No really, Ruth. He just set the record, right?"

I try to remember always that this kind of game -- huge inning for runs, shut-down pitching, good D -- doesn't happen every day. So enjoy it, realizing these same two lineups could meet a day later and the reverse could happen. That's baseball.
