I've gone down the row of comments here clicking 'likes' right and left.  I echo so many of the feelings of other fans here, especially in the sense of how horribly Molly has jerked the kid around this year.  I'm down to absolute zero confidence in Molitor, for so many reasons, but this is the new #1.  

Not going to rehash the points already made, but he's not only made terrible decisions for the present ML side, he's also mucking up the future.  Molly has to go, and Meyer has to get back up and take his licks and learn during the rest of this lost season.

I believe people have attributed Meyer's bad season last year to losing his grandfather and dog. It certainly is terrible when you lose people in your life, but it doesn't really show a lot of mental toughness to just shut down like that.  I'm guessing he did not handle how Molitor treated him very well. Really I wouldn't even know who to blame if that's the case.

I went back and looked at Meyer's 29 pitches in the third inning. The Houston announcers thought Milone would be coming in two batters earlier to face Rasmus. It did look like Altuve could have been called out on strikes, and Springer got a favorable call as well. I would have liked to see Meyer pitch another inning, but I don't think Molitor's removing him was a sign of disrespect. Getting him out of the game while it was still a positive performance and putting in the long reliever that TD had just shown was nearly unhittable the first time through the lineup was not outrageous, and it did get Houston to pinch-hit.

 

But I am real unhappy with the lack of news from Rochester. Could Boras be claiming that he is injured and should have been put on the ML 15 DL instead of being sent to Rochester?

I'm more pissed about the use of Meyer than anything else this season. And that includes putting Sano in the outfield.

 

His one big league start, his fastball looked terrifying (for batters, that is).

I'm more curious than anything else. I think the guy has legit talent......and being a human, I'd like to see him succeed in life. I just hope everything is ok.

I kind of feel like Meyer is big enough of a name for this to be a story for ALL of the major Twins writers/reporters to be inquiring about. If this is not on their radar, they really are not doing that damn good of a job. It at least deserves a blurb at the end of some recap or story. I mean WTF, it is like the guy just disappeared and they think no one is going to notice. Something is definitely up here, I can't explain it otherwise. I honestly think he is either really upset or might be dealing with some personal issues.

I see Rochester's Sunday starter is still listed as TBD, but even if he takes that start, it doesn't really explain why they would skip his turn entirely.

 

Seems like we would have heard about any health concern by now, seeing as how it could affect his roster status (the union would probably be suspicious of a player getting optioned if he was unable to play).

 

If he needed time off to clear his head -- maybe that's a clue he's not the best candidate for messing with his routine in the first place?

 

Maybe he's seeing some sort of super-secret pitching guru?

Thanks Dude!!!!! My next theory was that the 7th grade science teacher in his hometown left for maternity leave, so he stepped in as the longterm sub to finish out the school year.

Did the person with knowledge hint to whether he would be in the rotation or pen when he got back next week? Weird that DL was not used with this long of a lay off.

Thanks Seth.  Seems strange that wasn't disclosed before (and still hasn't been disclosed anywhere publicly except this thread, to my knowledge).

 

I wonder if Meyer will later see an adjustment in his service time and MLB backpay -- the union can't look too kindly on a player getting optioned when he's not healthy enough to take his next turn, for at least 11 days in Meyer's case, more if he doesn't start on Sunday...

Lately, Meyer is like that person at the office who just seems to float around until everybody loses track of what they're working on. Eventually people realize that nobody is sure what that person does around here, and at this point they are too afraid to ask. Meanwhile, they keep collecting a check while chugging away on their cat blogs (probably).

From a person without direct knowledge. His shoulder was perfect when he got off the plane. It became fatigued only during the bullpen session. There will be no union involvement.

Was this person without direct knowledge also responsible for 2015 parade planning?  Is he a trusted source?

 

Players don't take physicals when they are optioned, or when they leave aircraft.  If Meyer gets a paper cut in the Rochester clubhouse, that's one thing, but it's difficult if not impossible to pinpoint an exact "moment of injury" for reported shoulder or elbow fatigue.  I would imagine it's quite possible that Meyer felt "normal" fatigue after his last start, and first noticed that it hadn't gone away like normal in his first bullpen session in Rochester.  In modern MLB, if it requires you to miss a start or close to 15 days, that usually means a retroactive DL stint.

 

I don't know if anything will come of it, particularly if he winds up starting Sunday after 11 days off, but I am sure the union and Meyer's agent (Boras) are keeping an eye on it, especially if it drags out any further.

 

Nothing contentious about it either -- I am sure players and teams go through this situation on a regular basis.  The service time and MLB backpay will probably be trivial to the Twins.

Why exactly does it take this long, and the mysterious "Deep Throat" reporting to find out an AAA pitcher has a boo boo? Does the FO think this will affect the playoff pursuit? His trade value? Their handling of the matter? This isn't really about Meyer, it's about the odd goings on in club management and the media lackeys which follow same! I think the last revelatory column I have read from a Twins beat writer, is where to eat in Ft. Meyers during ST.
