Fangraphs Ranking of the Twins minor leaguers is up

Ok, now I've read it.

Some of you are not going to be happy about the ABWIII ranking.....

He likes Wade more than most though.

Not a lot of surprise, for me, other than those two rankings.

That's about right, other than Park maybe.

Glad to see someone scoring Polanco's fielding at SS the way it is, instead of propagating suburban legends...

He does love Park, meant to state that also.

He also somehow clipped out the Wander Javier part, and that will be added back in (or is there already when some of you read it).

On Nick Gordon:

"Gordon has a collection of all-around skills that could eventually conspire to produce one of the top shortstop profiles in the game."

What a great way to phrase his toolset. He's not overpowering in any one aspect of the game and it's easy to get down on him for not flashing one gaudy tool at us.

But when a shortstop is "pretty good at everything he does", that's a borderline elite player at the position.

That write up on Park is sooooooo much fun to read.  I really hope he's right.

Farnsworth has received a fair amount of grief for these prospect lists (at least initially), but he had a pretty solid track record of identifying good bats prior to their breakouts (JD Martinez, Jose Abreu, Kang) as well as throwing some cold water on guys like Rusney Castillo. I am taking his Park analysis very seriously.

Man, they are bullish on Park.

Well, Fangraphs projects Park to be #33 in MLB by wRC+.  If he's eligible for your prospect list, and you agree with that projection, you pretty much have to treat him as an elite prospect, regardless of age/position.

I think the Park ranking is pretty solid. His competition isn't great, but if Park put up those numbers in AA or even A ball, we would be going insane with the hype right now.

Sure there's a good probability he'll bust, but is it any higher than most teams #3 prospect?

Those two things are done in silos......the prospect rankings are 1 person's thoughts.....and the projections come from a computer, all the authors say they don't agree with all of them.

Fangraphs isn't some one entity....

I don't know about that. We've actually seen some pretty ridiculous numbers at Rochester in recent years (Plouffe, Parmelee, and Colabello), enough to intrigue but I don't think most observers went insane in hype (to the tune of the #33 MLB wRC+ projection at Fangraphs).

I know, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.  Just thought it was interesting.

That's the first positive report I have read on Polancos SS defense in a long time.

Odd. But ill take it.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the EXCLUSIVE 1,000 Post Club! This elite group of individuals dedicates their craft to making TD great again. The torch, is being passed on to you, young clutterheart. With this power, comes great responsibility. As a reward, Brock will be waiting for your arrival at the TD Headquarters with a cake!!

Also, yes, it was very surprising to read "league-average defense" for Polanco. Took me by surprise too.

Clutterheart! Don't fall for this scam! I went to meet Brock and have some cake when I hit 1000! Turns out all he brought was a Hostess Cupcake! Not only that, he texted me on the way over and had me stop at Starbucks for two lattes! He tried to tell me that at 10,000 you get a steak dinner at Murrays with Sid, but later I found out it was actually a Happy Meal at Mac Don's with Chief!

Let me guess, both lattes were for him.... Maybe you just hit your lucky 1000 on a weekday. As you know being a 1000 post member, the people that hit that mark on the weekends gets a real cake! And a flight of some of Canada's finest beers from North!

Surprised with the lack of comments on Lamonte Wade. He barely cracks most people's top 30 but at age 21 he excelled immediately. He was a little old for E-Town but OBPd .418 with some power. That doesn't happen by accident.

It will be very interesting to see what happens this year, hopefully advancing to Fort Myers. I love this bullish ranking on him. I fell in love with him reading his profile in the prospect handbook.

Some of you are lucky, I got nothing for having 1000 posts.

On the other side, interesting list to see Wade so high, will reserve judgement of him, but it is hopefull.  Walker was called as they saw him, but think it's low.

Pitching seems to be as good as anywhere, we shall see in the next couple of years.

He will have to prove himself throughout his career, even as a 10 year MLB vet.     His game will always call for doubt.   As a prospect I say 'if your trying to make the MLB, refer to their  {MLBPipeline) rankings"

That's probably your sign for job security - http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/26271672/v545406983

The comments on Polanco are some of the strongest I've seen. At least in regard to his defense. As someone who has never been able to watch Polanco in person, save a game or inning here and there, what I've always wanted to know is an accurate reporting of his defense and potential. By that, I mean can he actually play the SS position? There is so much focus on his error totals, but those really shouldn't be unexpected. Brief research will show a large number of ML SS's with high (-ish) error totals in the minors and even initially in the majors. It's a positions that requires learning.

His error total can be explained by youth, learning, poorer fields, poorer teammates (1B in particular), rushing throws, trying too hard, etc. So again, my concern and question is can he actually play the position. The report here says he can. As much as I like Escobar, this could be big for the Twins.

Crap.  I did something wrong.

He's on my watch list this year.  If he's for real, he should do quite well in A ball this season and move up to high A as you suggest.  Problem is that we've had a few guys like this who do really well out of rookie ball and look rather pedestrian once they full season ball.

As of right now LaMonte Wade is designated to the Low A workout group so unless something shocking happens in spring look for him to start the year in Cedar Rapids.
