doing the opposite

Ya, I've been clamoring to "win now"........and he's had a down year+, but they stupidly moved him to the other side of the rubber, and won't let him throw his best pitches often. they keep jerking him around, starter, RP, starter, AAA, MLB......give him a role!

Go trade for Kevin Gausmann....really, with good coaching, he'd be in the Twins' top 3. Or, make him a RP. I believe the O's need a RH OF, and some other pitching types....would Hunter and Pelfrey and Rogers be enough?

Ya, I doubt it will happen......

There's just no chance of Hunter getting traded.  He didn't sign a 1 year deal with the Twins to be traded mid-season.

Also...why would the O's even consider moving him that cheaply?

Why do all the trade threads wind up like this?

This is a good comparison. I'm not even listening to trades on this website anymore.

I do like the Gausman idea, for the same reasons I was banging the "go trade for Jake Arrieta" drum a few years ago.

Former first rounders/high end prospects that flame out early are excellent buy-low options and should be pursued as often as possible.

Just go get Price, Hamels, Lucroy, Tulo,  Chapman and Cueto and be done with it already. I mean how hard can this be?

Wasn't this the strategy for the Padres this past offseason? That sure didn't work out for them.

I'm guessing Hunter wouldn't or couldn't be moved, but this is the kind of trade I'm interested in. The O's certainly like Twins hitters, I wonder if Arcia could be a piece.

Don't forget that Greinke will be a free agent at the end of this season. Maybe the Dodgers will take Pelfrey for him to save money on his contract.

Now you're just getting greedy. :)

Mike, for the record I was serious with the Arcia idea.

I suspect that the Twins would have to supplement a little but depending on how the Os view Arcia it could be the start of a framework of a deal.

I would support the Twins to go after Gausman, but they aren't trading Hunter. I'm not sure what the Os are really going for at the moment.

Rip away, but Gausmann is on the block....and the Os are in win now mode.......good coaching completely changes him, imo.

I'd love for them to get Gausman! I wanted them to take him instead of Buxton in that 2012 draft. (they were right, I was wrong) But I do believe Gausman can be a 3 or even a 2 in a good rotation. He's got the stuff.

That said, I can't imagine they have interest in Hunter or Pelfrey.

Arcia for Gausman is hella intriguing.

I'd do this, but at some point they would need to start getting rid of excess arms at the top level.  Pelfrey is gone obviously after this year, but doing nothing they have Milone, Gibson, May, Nolasco, Hughes, and Santana for 5 spots in the rotation with Berrios, Rogers, and Duffey making a case in AAA.  You can never have enough arms, but at some point, they need to start removing a few.  Even without Gausman (who I really like by the way), I have to think that Milone will be traded in the offseason to make room for May.  If they picked up Gausman, the might be able to stash him in AAA for a season depending on his options situation, but at some point, they would have to get him into the majors to stay.

I'd offer Arcia for Gausman straight up. They're the same age. They're both former highly regarded prospects.

Swap the two and call it a day.

I'd do Arcia and one of their mid-tier SP prospects......

Ya, I don't think they'd do it for Hunter/Pelfrey/mid-tier prospect either.....

And yes, at some point, they'll need to make decisions on which pitchers they keep. And yes, I was with Seth and wanted Gausmann in that draft. I was likely quite wrong about that.

I like the thinking.  As happy as I am that the Twins are winning if the right deal presented itself I would love the Twins to make some "seller" moves despite being in contention.

I just don't know how they could do it or justify it to the mainstream fanbase selling off any current pieces like Pelfrey/Milone/Hunter for a prospect.  I don't see any of them as big pieces for the future and are middling current pieces.  Obviously Hunter is going nowhere for multiple reasons but Pelfrey and Milone might be nice parts of a deal like this.  They are contributing pretty solidly at the major league level but don't appear to be parts of the future for the Twins.  Even with their regression their season long numbers look good and could entice a team that needs a bat (Arcia) and a back end starter to stabilize the rotation to make a deal.

If the Twins don't break out of this funk soon we may be switching to sellers by this time next week and deals like this may be more of a reality.

I like the thinking here, Mike.  I'm only looking at the stats and they kinda tell me Arcia is too much for Gausman.  Arcia deserves another call-up at this point and I'd wait to see the results.  You never know:  Arcia could actually be worth a lot more  :)

As for a spot in the rotation:  you gotta be kidding me.  I don't see an issue.  As pitchers get worn out towards the latter part of the season, they'll be looking for starters.  Hey, if the Terry Ryan can trade Kevin Correia to the Dodgers, anything is possible  :jump:

You can always throw in Duensing.

How is Duensing supposed to get Gausman when he's already going to be traded to get Price, Hamels, Lucroy, Tulo,  Chapman and Cueto.

I don't know how one Duensing gets all of them, but I'm sure Tigers, Philies, Brewers, Rockies and Reds would come up with an equatable time share.

Not a bad idea.  The O's are looking for an outfielder.  Maybe Arcia has just enough defensive value for it to work.  It would sure be a lot of fun to see him blasting homers out of Camden.

Arcia was one a top ten rated prospect like Gausman was?

Well, Arcia is looking more like a strong side platoon player by the day. Gausman is looking more like a bullpen arm by the day.

It's a fair trade.

No, but Oswaldo has slightly more success at the MLB level, which balances out their value.

Both players are well into an MLB career. Arcia has 800 PAs, Gausman 200 IP. How they were viewed 3+ years ago is largely irrelevant.
