Parker Hageman Site Manager Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 The Twins announced this morning that Byron Buxton will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left thumb sprain. Danny Santana will be recalled from Rochester to replace him. Over his last 10 games in Rochester, Santana has hit .267/.313/.489 with seven of his 12 hits going for extra bases. He had spent most of the time as the team's shortstop but he did play one game in center field opening the door to the possibility that he might fill that role while Buxton is sidelined. Buxton reportedly injured his left wrist on this slide against Chicago on Tuesday night: https://twitter.com/ParkerHageman/status/614465561523785728 Go93.6's Dana Wessel interviewed Twins manager Paul Molitor after the announcement and Molitor told him that he expects Buxton to be sidelined for up to a month.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Didn't see that coming. Santana in CF?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Not that any excuses would need to be made, but one would also have to think that even if it's only 15 days, Buxton will more than the typical few games on rehab assignment. Let's see if he can take what he learned at the MLB level and dominate Rochester.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 This is not good news at all. Hicks and then Buxton have both sold me on the value of a competent center fielder.
astauty Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Just awful...... does anyone really believe this is an actual injury? Danny Santana plays awful for an entire year, gets 12 games in the minors, hits .276 and is now our CF. yee-haw.

drjim Provisional Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I 100% believe this is real. Of course it is. Why would they fake one to leave them with no CFs while Hicks is on rehab when they could option him and save service time and money. Sprained thumbs are no joke for hitters. Damn it.

Damn it. yeah.. you're probably right.. maybe i'm just bitter, they can be very protective of their prospects, and they have an unfounded love of certain players.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 That 0-4 with four Ks on Wednesday makes me wonder if something happened in Tuesday's game that I missed.
gocgo Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I think he did it sliding into 2nd on an attempted steal.
Vance_Christianson Provisional Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Insert Danny Santana to CF please, and not Shane Robinson (better late inning defensive sub or pinch runner or 4th OF), or Eduardo Escobar! I'd prefer to see none of these 3 starting in CF, but with Hicks and Buxton on the DL, queue up 1 of the 3. When will Danny Ortiz ever get his shot?! He's killing AAA, and Santana is only batting .267.
Loosey Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I think he did it sliding into 2nd on an attempted steal.I agree and thought the same thing. Probably being a rookie who was somewhat struggling and wanting to play downplayed it as long as he could. Molly better teach the kid the right way to slide.
Kwak Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I think he did it sliding into 2nd on an attempted steal. Those head-first slides are risky--I'm not surprised if that was the reason.

jorgenswest Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 They need to go with Robinson in CF and Santana at SS. The slight increase in offense by playing Nunez over Robinson does not nearly match the deficit in defense in CF and SS. It is time for the veterans to step up and win the series in Milwaukee. We need Mauer, Plouffe, Dozier and Hunter to have a big series. Then they need to continue it into Cincinnati and Kansas City. Star players carry teams into contention. Santana and Robinson just need to be solid.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Hicks starts his rehab assignment pretty soon?

tobi0040 Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I 100% believe this is real. Yeah, he would have just been sent to AAA, not hidden on the DL
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 It must be tempting to bring up Max Kepler. I am not sure about Rosario's defense in CF or Kepler's in LF but definitely intrigued. Is Thompson's contribution in the bullpen more valuable than an OF bat?

He's killing AAA, and Santana is only batting .267. Uhhhh... Santana hit .308 since he was sent down to da Roch. I have no idea where you got .267 from. And Robinson is actually a good defender in CF, unlike Santana.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 He sprained it during his stolen base attempt on Tuesday, which shouldn't be too surprising if you saw how ugly that slide was. Apparently Molly said he would be out at least a month.
Loosey Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 While on the DL will Buxton travel with the team? May be nice to get him acclimated to a Major League road trip while not having to worry too much about struggling at the plate as well as just getting a chance to learn some things. Then come back refreshed with a clear head and hope he can get going a bit.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Hate to make too much of this, but Buxton seems to be a bit...fragile. Get Hicks back up here stat.

Apparently Molly said he would be out at least a month. Yeah, Molly told Dana Wessel it could be a month. Doogie is hearing from others it would be less. We'll see I guess. Hicks can come off the DL on Sunday I think. So I wonder what the plan is with Hicks/Santana after that? Move Santana back to short? If Hicks doesn't rejoin the team by Monday...well, I wonder what is going on with him.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Those head-first slides are risky--I'm not surprised if that was the reason. as I've posted before, I would bench any player on my team that did it. It's stupid.
