Cruz looks like he'll win Kansas by a substantial amount; he's also leading in Maine.  Could Cruz really emerge as the unifier of the Republican establishment? Ha.

That would be amazing.  He'll get destroyed so hard in the general election that it might be the real come to jesus moment of the Republicans.

He represents everything that prevents the party from moving in a more productive direction.

This, on a web site where we constantly remind ourselves about small sample sizes. :) In a general election I am not one to hope for the "other" side to nominate the least electable candidate; too much can happen.

I'm rooting for Cruz as a libertarian.  I want one of the two parties to embrace me (and the ever growing number like me) and it's going to take a radical shift in thinking for that to happen.

I don't ever see the Dems doing that and the Republicans won't until the Ted Cruz types are less prominent.

Today apparently, Trump rescinded his vow to kill the families of terrorists. What a great guy, I know. But maybe it's a small sign that he will change his position when presented with facts and given time to think.

Part of me wonders if he isn't treating this like a business deal. He's saying all the things the Republican base wants to hear so he can close the sale.

What if Trump wins the nomination, cleans up his language, and then positions himself as a moderate against Hillary?

..Again, not excusing him and there's basically zero chance I will vote for him.

He loses very badly.   Republicans will feel vindicated by the suggestion that Trump was a liberal all along; and liberals won't buy his sudden shift.  He'll lose his base and won't attract voters who normally sway left.

A guy can't walk back from "we'll bomb their families".

And then there are the hundred other absurd things Trump has said in front of a camera over the past two years.

It's too late. He's either a waffler or a liar if he tries to come back from his more outrageous ideas.

Reagan has simply been turned into a mailable deity who gets molded into whatever the occasion calls for for the conservative talking heads.

To be fair though, he has probably become more demonized by the left over the last decade than he probably deserves. That's probably mostly reflexive pushback due to the other side making him a golden calf.

So, he's a false idol..........

Like I said before, Trump has a strong core of support that seems to follow him.  The question will be, is there enough anti-Hillary support on the right for him to carry the rest of the Republicans?

I have serious doubts, but I'm not convinced the answer is no.

It looks like the tides may be turning on Trump. He was a huge favorite in early Louisiana voting but Cruz nipped at his heels on voting day.

Big day for Cruz. It appears the GOP establishment is rallying around him, now we'll find out if it's too little too late.

Not that I believe either candidate can win a general but it makes for an interesting race.

We'll have to see if that matters in Florida or Ohio - where Trump is in a commanding spot relative to Cruz.  (Who is, at best, a distant third in both those contests per the current polling)

True, Cruz isn't a factor in either of the large winner take all races.

The reference wasn't unintentional.

Edit: But wow, the timing on that comment. Next thing I see, Nancy Reagan has died.

I still think it unlikely Trump is the R nominee.

I think it's highly unlikely that it's unlikely.

But, I will say, a lot of my opinions may be colored by trying to vocally convince myself that voting for Hillary might not be so bad.

Nancy Reagan was still alive?

Wow.

No ****, the first year I leave her off my death pool and she goes and pulls this crap NOW?!?!?!

It doesn't hurt to keep Sanders around, but I'm not sure it's really making that much of an impact.  Everyone still sees Hillary as the only possible outcome of that election.  Mostly because Sanders hasn't done anything to reverse his all-white voting base.

Just wait and see! He's revolutionary!

I think if he was more like 45, and good looking*, that he could help start the change that is inevitably coming (if you believe that history repeats itself).

*I don't think the USA wants an older guy right now.....
