I'm curious to see what this speech by Romney is going to be about. At this point, the gop is pulling everything out of the bag to try and correct this race. Problem is, their only hope is a hardline evangelical tea party that has no tolerance and an inexperienced robot that wants to send troops around the world. I think they need to reevaluate who they let run for the nomination.

hahahaha, this made me laugh. I assume the movie, not the tv show.....

Yes, the movie. Never watched the series.

I see Ben Carson is pulling out of the campaign. Just in time for his movie.

The thing about Roe v wade... Is that the only way to overturn it is in the supreme court. I don't see it happening.... Ever. I don't think it is a serious platform, unless you're Ted Cruz.

It can be overturned via Constitutional amendment.

So... Yeah. Good luck with that, Evangelicals.

Good luck indeed. I've been reading varying takes on trump and the gop from around the world. The fracture of the party is not an opinion isolated to this discussion. We've been talking about it for a long time, but it's actually unraveling before our eyes. I'm stunned. I've voted Republican since i could vote.

The under 40 crowd, regardless of where the fall on the political or religious spectrum, isn't as energized by Roe v. Wade as older folks. I don't think there's much question about that.

Right, there is a lot of polling to show the vast majority of us have no patience for the right-wing approach on that issue.  Ditto gay marriage and a variety of other issues.

Hell, you see de-criminalization and loosened drug laws as a viable right-wing stance.  It's almost as if they're scared to admit that being libertarian makes some damn sense.  But it's that one really influential issue with older voters and hardcore Christians that just won't let them pivot enough to capture the interest of a very large chunk of independents they could be courting.

The destruction of the gop is embarrassing for our country. The entire world watches who we nominate.

To be quite honest, it's surreal. I keep saying to myself, these people can't be this stupid (not any of you), but they keep proving me wrong.

1930's Europe, 1980's Middle East. It's happened in recent historical memory; no reason to think the U.S. Is immune. I view it as more cultish than strictly stupid. Although the end result is the same.

Thanks. Every time I find myself hoping for a Trump presidency in order to shake up the status quo, I'm reminded of the terrible things he is saying and that if he's president he might decide to believe those things. Kill the terrorists' families? Did not hear that one until the John Oliver video.

Still, if Hillary's main message is "can't let that guy win!" she will not get my vote. I'm sure in her heart of hearts she cares about minorities and the poor, but her top priority as a career politician is now Goldman Sachs and Wall Street, and only after she makes sure they are happy will social policy or anything else get any attention.

To me, it's almost worth a roulette pull (Donald Trump) to maybe try to break this system up. I guess I don't know enough about how to get this fixed the right way and some days I might wake up and take my chances. I really have no idea. There is no way to predict where this goes as long as Trump is in the race.

that has not been Hillary's message at all. Not even a little bit. I don't love her stance on a few business/labor things, but her message has not been "we have to beat Trump".

I don't even know if she has mentioned Trump by name while on the campaign trail. She certainly didn't mention his name on Super Tuesday.

It's pretty hard to run on a platform of "at least I'm not that guy" when you never bring up the name of "that guy".

You are really going to make me dig up a bunch of links?

"Preserve our gains" and "we can't lose everything we have worked for" are variations on the theme. Granted I'm not fully paying attention yet but she's saying those things over and over.

That has nothing to do with Trump, that is "we need to keep the WH in our hands".

Don't forget the Nazi salutes and endorsements from the openly racist groups. But there's only one quote here that's really bothersome. Otherwise, shortened and presented out of context as they were, any person might have said any of them.

Given Trump is almost a lock to win the nomination, it will be both amazing and frightening to watch how this campaign unfolds.

She has been making a big deal of "we don't need to make America great again, we need to make America whole again," which is a direct reference to Trump's campaign.

According to 538, trump is nowhere near a lock yet.

Yeah, it should be interesting going forward, as the best option for the party may be to keep *everyone* in the race and deprive Trump of reaching the delegate threshold by weakening all candidates. Let Cruz take 25%, Rubio 20%, and Kasich 10%. Everyone "loses".
Posted

Voters will see right through that.

Does it matter? Given the polarization currently rippling through the GOP, it's not likely Cruz/Rubio/Kasich voters - people who seem to largely despise Trump - are going to jump ship and vote for him just because the GOP wants to see him lose.

If anything, they'll applaud and continue on, as it allows "their guy" to stay in the race and possibly steal the nomination in an open convention. The only person who loses is Trump, a guy those voters didn't like enough to vote for in the first place.

It's possible the strategy could backfire for the party but it's also possible enough people want to see Trump out of the race (but are unwilling to part from their preferred candidate) to make it work.

GOP are screwed. If they somehow screw Trump out of the nom using a bunch of shady stuff, there is no reason whatsoever for him to not go scorched earth and run as an independent. If that happened, the GOP might only win a couple states.

Yep, they have no good options to get themselves out of this mess.

Sure they do.......Cruz wins the most delegates. Which, frankly, is slightly possible.......

Cruz doesn't play with large segments of the voting population. He does well in select blocs but I don't see him gaining enough momentum to win the nomination. Sure, it's possible, though.

Ultimately, I don't know if it matters. Cruz, like Trump, is going to struggle to rally moderates around his cause.

That is not and has not been Hillary's priority or message. How you can say that she will prioritize Wall Street and then say you might as well vote for Trump in that case just shows how much you have bought into her vilification. Is she perfect? Not by a longshot. But she is by far the best qualified in the field of choices.
