FattCrapps Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I miss the olden days (Chief's era) when everyone wore beaver hats. Who doesn't enjoy some beaver on top of their head?
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I'd let him pitch one inning out of the pen later, and not today..... That sounds like an excellent solution.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Any weather report updates? Or estimates on the length of the delay of rain? Looking at a radar image for the area, the weather seems to have passed...
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 BAM! Three pages... right?A third page. Better make it worth reading... I also like the Music Man song about Gary, Indiana. There are also songs about Chicago too, aren't there?
James Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Burton's pitching, huh? This should be interesting.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I used to look for beaver on Hennepin Ave!What about Wally?
kydoty Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Hughes on Sunday will be begging Gardy to allow him to pitch to one better.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Congrats Burton, for a save. Can't complain too much about following an old tradition of making it exciting. Yeah, i too hope they'll give Mr. Hughes a relief outing if he so desires.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Really 8 million for a 8 months of playing baseball isn't enough get him that bonus! How is he going to help feed all of Sprewell's kids?
70charger Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Hughes gets the record! Way to go, buddy!
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 If you like the WAR stat.....Hughes's season this year will go down as a Top 5 pitching season in the last 30 years for the Twins. The top 3 of course being Johan and the 4th being Viola's 1988 season. Hughes's ERA being almost a full run over his FIP is mind boggling and shows just how terrible his defense has been behind him. Great season Hughesie.
Brandon Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Really 8 million for a 8 months of playing baseball isn't enough get him that bonus! How is he going to help feed all of Sprewell's kids?He was worth over 30 million. that is such a steep discount that even 500k doesn't make a dent into how much of a discount that was.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 You miss the point the guy is making 8 million bucks he doesn't have to stand in line for free cheese or use food stamps. Sure its better for him to have it instead of the Pohlads but I think he'll be ok.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 He was worth over 30 million. that is such a steep discount that even 500k doesn't make a dent into how much of a discount that was.Hughes now holds the MLB season record for K/BB for a pitcher throwing more than 150 innings. Give him the bonus, Dave SP. In yet another lost season with very few bright spots, rewarding one of them with a 500k bonus is worth twice that in desperately needed good PR.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Given the unfortunate event of Plouffe breaking his arm and being done for the season. I would like to commend him on having a much improved season and being one of the bright spots on this ball club. Sure, he didn't hit 25HR's, have a .850OPS, nor did he man 3B like Gary Gaetti, but he played very serviceable defense and at times looked damn good - not to mention he was one of our main offensive cogs, who was durable up until today and seemingly took on a leadership role with this ball club. Nice job Trevor and I look forward to seeing you build off the 2014 season in 2015 as the Twins starting 3B (which he will no doubt be).
snepp Verified Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Way to go Hughsie. Last 8 starts... 59 innings, 52 strikeouts, 1 walk.

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Yeah, at that hot, rocking club ... The Gay 90s (You deserved that for bringing the 'ick' factor to the thread) I'm sure you meant to say Augies. Although it was Moby Dick's where I was once nearly knifed over a foosball table.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 I'm sure you meant to say Augies. Although it was Moby Dick's where I was once nearly knifed over a foosball table. No, I most certainly meant the Gay 90s. Lotsa ladies, there.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 No, I most certainly meant the Gay 90s. Lotsa ladies, there. Yeah, my sister-in-law and several of her musician friends went there a lot. Not ick at all. Hence my confusion.

Although it was Moby Dick's where I was once nearly knifed over a foosball table. I wonder if we ever battled at one of those foosball tables...not to brag but I was once one of the better players in the state. Used to drive down to the cities once a month or so and play the tables there. Late 70's?
alskntwnsfn Verified Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Sorry to steer this game thread back on-topic before its archived, but I wanted to point out there is a good chance Gardy nearly cost this team a win. Bunting in the first inning after a leadoff double was not a smart move.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Was it Gardy's call for Dozier to bunt or was Dozier bunting on his own? I agree that either way Gardy should be instructing Dozier specifically to not bunt in the first inning.
