Final Two Days of Waiver Trades (Deduno)

It's August 30th today, and tomorrow, the 31st, is the final day for trades. Does anything think there's a possibility of anyone getting shipped off today or tomorrow? Remember, Justin Morneau was traded away on the final day in August last season.

Some candidates are:
RP Jared Burton

RP Brian Duensing

RP Casey Fien

Or there could be others. Who else could be shipped off?

I would like to see a number of guys dumped from the 40-man to make room for some more: Eric Fryer, Burton, Florimon, Deduno, Pino moved to 60-day the dumped in offseason, Iberra. If they aren't going to be part of the picture in 2015, get rid of them today. If no one  claims them, maybe you can possibly bring them back next year on minor league contracts. But this weekend should be get rid of the deadwood time.

Doubt they'd offer much, but Deduno doesn't fit in the long term plans. I'd probably give him to the Stros if they couldn't agree on something...

 

Though that said, I wouldn't wish that on Deduno.

Kind of odd to just give him away. Is he Arbitration eligible next year? If so, it makes more sense.

Best wishes to Samuel.  He'll probably get a pretty good shot to make their team next year.  Perhaps he'll get another chance to start.  There's something there, but what? five organizations haven't been able to get more than marginal productivity, and he's almost 31.

This is a player with no options left, blocking other minor league pitchers and taking up a valuable roster spot. He has served his time and was give ample opportunity to earn a more permanent job, he just was not reliable enough to hang onto one.

I assume this means that te Twns are planning to add more guys to the 40 man for September call-ups.  I'm okay with that - I didn't see SD fitting into the plans as they return to contention in 2016/17.

I wouldn't mind letting Parmalee and Florimon walk via waivers as well to clear up roster space. They both seem to have been replaced already on the roster.

No issue whatsoever with this, he hasn't really pitched much lately and is not part of the long term plans. Good to see some more 40-man space being freed up.

I'm sure a better thread will appear shortly, but I was surprised to find via MLB Trade Rumors that Samuel Deduno was placed on waivers and claimed by the Astros today.

Thompson's 10-season minor league odyssey and sketchy stat line seem to indicate he'll fit right in.  Needing a "lefty who's getting lefties out" doesn't exactly sound like a vote of confidence for T-Bar and Deuce.

I think so..... (This season Meyer vs. LHB   3.70 FIP 3.05 SIERA 12.19 K/9).

 

There are also actual LHP in Roc.

 

 Darnell ( Major league stats vs LHB   2.45 FIP 0.77 SIERA 6.75 K/9).  

 

And Johnson (Major league stats vs. LHB  1.75 FIP  2.23 SIERA  9.31 K/9).  But they're all needed for the stretch run in the IL.

I'm told #mntwins GM Terry Ryan left Rochester today and will not attend Alex Meyer's final regular-season start tonight.

Rochester's season likely ends in a few days.  The Twins are DOA.  Personally, I'm happy to let the AAA players finish out a good and exciting season there and then bring them up.  Ignoring that it's good for Rochester, it's probably good for them as well- let them finish what they've built.

Sammy Deduno, who embodied EFFECTIVELY WILD was as good at striking out guys as he was at walking them. Which doesn't play well as a starter, or out of the pen. But there was that World Baseball Classic magic...

Deduno would be a free agent if he wasn't claimed anyways.

 

Thompson would also be a free agent if they Twins option him out, so this is a looksee and if he shows some life, he could be one of those bubble guys to resign as a minors free agent again next year with a chance for a roster spot.
