  1. What really is the point in rehashing all that has been wrong with the various Twins starters this season? With the exception of Hughes they have all led to the highest starters ERA in all of MLB. No point in bringing back any of them as that will result in the highest starters ERA in 2015 too. No thanks to that in my mind, it is time to bring up the kids full scale, they can easily do just as poorly, can they not and also they will work cheap which is how the Pohlads want the organization to operated anyway, is it not?
  2. Certainly concur that the pitchers at AAA are filler to the max and thus I argue for free agent acquisitions which do not have to be expensive if done wisely and well. Perhaps the organization should take a good look at how the bullpens of the 2014 playoffs teams were assembled and go from there. A side note - who is this Worley guy that pitched a gem for Pittsburgh on Sunday? Sounds intriguing to me, in fact a trade for him might be something Ryan should pursue.
  3. Regarding the last post and the pitchers mentioned - To me bringing back damn near all of them as has been mentioned is a sure recipe for disaster. None of them collectively constitute a decent bullpen as compared to what the other American League teams will roster, I simply do not get the enthusiasm for any of them with the exception of Perkins if his arm is okay and Burdi. Check the numbers of many of them in the last month, very poor especially Fien. Surely dipping into free agency would be a better way to go, wouldn't it?
  4. Of all of the options mentioned as far as veterans now on the roster coming back I am underwhelmed by ALL of them and if most of those mentioned return the team is looking for a string of five consecutive 90 loss seasons. I would go the free agent route as damn near anyone out there is at least as capable of those currently on the active roster and finishing there at this season's end. Plus I would promote many of the youngsters as well, especially Burdi which appears at first sight to be a great draftee. Perkins should have been moved at the trade deadline to a contender, now his value has plummeted what with his recent arm trouble.
  5. As I have said before should not a lot of the blame for the Twins poor record over the past four years be put squarely on ownership's shoulders especially when they PROMISED to spend more money on the franchise and then failing to deliver on that promise?
  6. Great suggestions but do the Pohlads even know who these candidates are? Therein lies the problem, they do not even know where to look outside of the current management team to look.
  7. Most of this thread seems to be predicated on the Twins acquiring two starters in the off season that will be comparable to Hughes. Is this realistic? I think so but we will have to wait and see what happens regarding it. Personally I do not think ownership will bust for that sort of fiscal outlay, who agrees or disagrees with me on that statement?
  8. Arcia and company (the new guys) in charge? In what universe are the ballplayers in charge................hmm, come to think of it, perhaps they are and there in may lie the problem for many franchises. And taking this a little further - how about Kevin Towers as the new general manager? Good idea or not?
  9. zchrz - terrific response, it will be nice when the entire organization moves into the 21st century, won't it?
  10. I do not know about the fact that the Twins let Springman go as being a problem and/or solution. I doubt that very many young players today in any organization listen to anyone as far as trying to improve their games in any aspect of MLB. Part of being young, how many of us have truly listened to our mentors and teachers over the years? Hicks is one prime example of this. He has decided in the past to decline playing Winter ball, has any other Twins' minor leaguer done so as well? To me that should be part and parcel of their employment. In fact anything the MLB club desires of a player should be carried out to the fullest extent. Elementary in my mind.
  11. Granted that the Twins were facing a lefthander Thursday night but with the team going nowhere in the standings Arcia should have been in the lineup, the more practice he gets against southpaws the better he will be. Unless, of course, management only intends for Oswaldo to be a platoon player for his career. Which to me would/will (?) be a huge mistake. Totally it is time to let ALL of the young kids play in September, why not?
  12. All of baseball has seen what the Twins have in Milone and May and it sure is not much, is it?
  13. Return to contention in 2016/2017? For the bottom of their division? That is more than likely.
  14. A good farm system as mentioned here does NOT translate automatically to a good MLB team in a few years, time for a lot of us to put aside the rose-colored glasses. And time to get realistic about exactly how management intends to cobble together a decent team in the years to come. Commenters in this forum are far too easy on Twins management both in the front office and on the field. And we are even easier on ownership who promised to spend more on the on-field product and have not even come remotely close to delivering on that promise.
  15. If the proposed 2015 rotation is close to fruition all I can do is yell HELP! That is another year of a + 5.50 ERA and another 90+ loss season that accompanies such a ridiculous starting five. If any other team in MLB attempts that sort of rotation they will be welcome to join the Twins in another last place finish and perhaps even have a shot at 100 losses. Is that really something to be looking forward to? I sure do not think so.
