Are the Twins odds of winning the AL Central better than they were 1 week ago?

Are the Twins odds of winning the ALCS better than they were 1 week ago?

If the answer to either of those is “no” how can the deadline be described any other way than at best disappointing?

The Yankees getting nothing is the best part of this deadline event.

Clubs weren't selling. The Yankees have pitching issues and didn't land anyone. Other clubs with major pitching needs landing nothing or marginal guys. It was a weird market.

The one guy fans can rationally argue about is Stroman. He was dealt and we more or less know what the cost would have been.

But otherwise, it seems to me that the Twins did a reasonable job by adding 2 relievers. Not thrilling, but also reflective of the market.

The Twins already have a top ranked offense and a top 5 or 6 rotation. Though could use another top end starter. The bullpen is essentially fixed now. So it's not like there were lots of available options to make this team better. But I really wanted a wow move. I got 2 solid move. Very Terry Ryan like.

Fair way to look at it. My take...

The post-season competition for the pennant is a tournament. The three possible participants against which the Twins would be substantial underdogs:  the Yankees, Astros, and Red Sox (although currently 2 games out in the WC). Against 2 of these three teams, our odds probably got slightly better. Meanwhile, I don't think our odds to win the central are materially worse. I like what the Indians did...but especially, I like what it did longer-term for them.

Not a disaster, but primarily because of what other teams failed to do...not because of what the Twins FO WAS able to do.

The Yankees will probably get a #1 starter by about Sept 15th in Severino. The Twins don't have anyone like that lurking around about to do a rehab assignment.

It was a seller's market. Most seller's was wanted overpays for better players. Would have liked more, but given the parameters, Twins did fine. Astros became the favorite, it will still be difficult.

I think the Stros were the favorite before the Greinke trade, this just solidified their standing. We are good enough to play with anyone as long as we don't beat ourselves.

I don't think the Twins would be substantial underdogs against the Yankees or Sox.

I think we'd be slight dogs against the Yankees and slight favorites against the Red Sox.

The best part is all those premium prospects will be a year closer to the majors by this time next year, and the Twins kept all of them. The organizational "cup" has been filling these last few years; next year it may start to overflow, which will be a good problem to have.

For what they gave and what they got I'm happy. But they needed so much more.

I wonder why the Mets didn't trade Wheeler? The Twins, and any number of teams, would have given them a LOT more than the rando they'll get with their compensatory draft pick. Maybe they still think they have hopes of making the wild card, or of resigning him.  But if they'd dealt him they could have gotten some really good prospects. 

Is there any chance someone like Graterol or Duran might make a late season appearance in the Twins' bullpen?

The Twins should have added a starter. That said, several teams were trying to buy and sell and not making sense.

What are the D-Backs thinking? Why trade Grienke, replace him with Leake and hold on to Ray? So you can still give a half-hearted shot at the WC?

Same for the Giants. And the Reds. And the Mets. And the Rangers

I loved how the Dbacks got that Marlin kid who shut us down last night. It might have been a John Ryan Murphy move but I thought he'd be a good get. But i didn't think the Marlins wouldn't be trading away a promising young starter. I guess it wouldn't have hurt to ask we probably could have got him for Gordon based on the return.

I would have traded the farm for Noah Syndergaard with two more seasons on the books. I would have done it four years ago. I would have done that three years ago. I would have done it last year, and I would have done it today.

What were the solid deadline deals Ryan made? Stewart- anyone else?

Getting Pavano, Cabrera, Rauch, Fuentes, even Capps was Bill Smith.

Ryan would more likely ship off major league players like Lawton and Redman and not improve the team at all.

The Twins were also able to add two really nice beards, which the bullpen was clearly lacking.
