Gavin Lux out for season, Dodgers likely interested in SS

Can Gordon legitimately be considered a SS candidate?  In his 231 career major league games, he's only appeared at SS for 31 of them.  Even in the minors he really hasn't played full time SS since 2018

When I heard the Lux news, I wondered whether Farmer might be an option for the Dodgers, especially considering the Dodgers love versatile guys and Farmer would fill in nicely there. After the addition of Solano, Farmer seems a bit redundant considering Solano can play everywhere that Farmer can except for SS. However, that last part is probably key -- trading Farmer would leave the Twins without a true backup SS. It seems pretty clear the Twins don't want to use Gordon at SS, Polanco is nothing more than a "break glass in case of emergency" SS at this point, and Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee might not be ready for the Majors until mid-summer. A trade of Farmer seems possible if the Twins felt comfortable at all heading into the year with some combination of Gordon, Lee, Polanco, Solano as backup SS options; however, it seems unlikely we would want to diminish our overall depth considering the primary goal of offseason seems to have been to accumulate as much depth as possible. 

I don't see why they would trade for Farmer or Gordon, when Iglesias would only cost them money (and they have plenty of that).

Dodgers are not looking for a long-term replacement, so you can rule out the kids.

The Twins didn't sign these guys to move them right now.  Depth and redundancy is good. 

As with just about everybody, you answer the phone on trade proposals.  But I imagine it would take a pretty healthy overpay by the Dodgers to get someone like Farmer from the Twins.  Not because Farmer is a world beater, but because he plays an important role right now. 

Miguel Rojas is not a terrible option at SS.

I don't see the Twins doing this, but I'd certainly consider it given their SS "depth" right now.

I couldn't say yes to that swap fast enough, which means it's probably not enough to swing a deal even if LA had interest in Farmer.

Fair, I just think Farmer would be the sweetener in a swap that has MN receiving a top 100 C prospect, and at that point Idk if the deal makes sense for either side.

The Dodgers will roll with what they have and look when they feel it necessary. Think June or July.

Would take more than Farmer but Getting Rushing who is LH bat would be ideal. Max and Farmer for Rushing and one of there seemingly endless number of quality arms in the minors...

ZERO chance they don't make a move before opening day. Not going to spend the money they have spent and go with a castoff from the Marlins as their everyday guy. It's LA man.. they will go get something as Lux was questionable there anyway. 

I hate to say it but the Dodgers and the Yankees match up really well.. Yanks have too many middle infielders and Dodgers have a need.

You do know that Rojas had his contract extended, right? The Dodgers traded for Rojas specifically to protect themselves in case of an issue with Lux. Every team looks to upgrade. There are not any shortstops available right now that are better than Rojas,  that I'm aware of.

LAD had Farmer in their system and they wanted to convert him to catcher. Farmer is an adequate SS but his poor hitting against RHPs, wouldn't make him a good fulltime SS for the Twins much less LAD. And right now we need Farmer and he's not worth much in trade, so I hope we don't trade him immediately.  I agree Gordon isn't a SS.

I think there's a real possibility that Kyle Farmer becomes a trade talking point between the Twins and the Dodgers. It would not surprise me if Kepler is also in the discussion. The Dodgers have a deep farm system particularly in pitching and catching. I do think there's a match. May be a Caleb Ferguson or Andre Jackson might be a good piece for Farmer. Add Kepler and maybe you can get Outman, Landon Knack, or Nick Mastrini or 1 of them plus someone a little farther down the list? Who knows, maybe there's a way to pry Ryan Pepiot away if you offer, Farmer, Kepler and maybe a solid AA guy.

I think there's a real opportunity here for the Twins to trade what are now somewhat redundant pieces - a 32-year-old starting caliber Shortstop who will be relegated to a reserve role for the one year he is with the team and a 30-year-old good fielding, roughly average hitting outfielder for whom there seemed to be adequate replacements. The Dodgers are a win now team that needs both those kinds of players. What you guys think?

I expect the Dodgers to try Rojas and find him wanting. I also expect them to do whatever is necessary to contend so I think they'll be looking by June. Maybe then we can trade farmer with Lewis hopefully on the way?

Farmer was acquired for a fringe prospect minor league reliever and is now upgraded to worth a major league worthy prospect.  Nah.

Dodgers will not give up any major talent for Farmer.  I mean look what we gave up for him, nothing earth shattering.  Just because they may feel they have more of a need, does not mean they will give away talent.  They have someone that can fill in just as good as Farmer most likely.  Now, if he starts failing and if Farmer puts up strong numbers, then maybe they would be willing to give up more for a the rental.
