ashbury Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Many people's prayers have just been answered. Alex Jackson DFA, and presumably on waivers, this evening. Hawkeye Bean Counter and thelanges5 1 1
thelanges5 Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Hopefully, he passes through, but carrying three catchers didn’t make any sense anyways.
jaimedude Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Seemed inevitable. Twins were just not even using him even for pinch running. I doubt he passes waivers but who knows., White Sox released Hasse, so I suspect he will be claimed by them. DJL44 1

He played well, albeit in limited innings this season. Hawkeye Bean Counter 1
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I confess to being a bit surprised by this, but now that its happened and there is an open 40 man spot, I suppose we’ll see Jenkins soon. The Great Hambino and PseudoSABR 2

That seems like the most likely use of that spot. Is there anyone about to come off the 60-day IL, or are they dumpster diving for starting pitching depth? If not, it's probably Jenkins

To replace either Zebby or Prielepp, or even Adams. HarmonK03 1
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Nothing against Jackson... I'd honestly have no problem with him remaining on the roster but three Catchers on the MLB roster isn't ideal roster utilization for a contending team. Healthy and one plate appearance in the last 15 days is problematic roster utilization for any team contending or not. Church of Kreidler, Hawkeye Bean Counter, HarmonK03 and 1 other 4
Hawkeye Bean Counter Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Should have traded him. Really odd to carry him this long when you had a good demand for catchers at the deadline. HarmonK03 1
twinfan Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I'm sure there wasn't a market for him but I don't like Caratini and hoped he would be dealt so I hope we don't get an injury there. Hawkeye Bean Counter 1
mnfireman Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 A quick look at statistics since the deadline (SSS) shows that most of the contending teams needing a C have been getting production from the position, with SEA and LAD maybe being the exceptions. Pereda plays about once a week and Rortvedt has never hit, so one of them may take a flyer on Jackson.
Church of Kreidler Verified Member Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Major bummer!!! It was nice having at least one catcher capable of beating the steal... Love Jeffers and Caratini, but they have negative pop. HarmonK03 and RpR 1 1

That they can get the ball to 2nd before the runner. And Jackson smoked both Jeffers and Caratini in that stat. RpR 1
mrmpls Verified Member Posted August 15 Posted August 15 why not have a guy like Jackson as the Bullpen catcher and can only be activated in a emergency for the sake of the Team, im sure players unions and M.L.B. laws would all freak out ? just spitballing ? they make everything to complicated, Bullpen catcher nice job to have !!!

But these are all percentiles, right? It just means Caratini is the worst overall in the league. But it doesn't say how much worse he is. And it is probably statistics, so from his normal set, but on a pitch-out for instance, he can be faster. (and forgive the slow response... i typed it up and then got distracted) Church of Kreidler and Craig Arko 1 1
