Former Twins catcher Ben Rortvedt has been DFA's after last night's Rays vs. Twins game where he went 0-3 lowering his BA to .095 this season.

Rays To Designate Ben Rortvedt For Assignment - MLB Trade Rumors

Rortvedt out and Gibby in. Gibby signed a MiLB contract with the Rays,

Ildemaro Vargas, briefly a Twin in 2020, will rejoin the Diamondbacks. Vargas is one of my favorite entries in the Immaculate Grid, due to playing on a lot of teams and his nearly anonymous stay with the Twins.

On a much sadder note, former Twins pitcher Scott Klingenbeck died at age 54, apparently related to long-term alcohol abuse (or addiction). He was acquired in the Scott Erickson trade and had a pretty forgettable career.

Jorge López DFA'd by the Nationals. He has really had an up and down career. He's going to be one of my favorite Immaculate Grid entries with all of the teams he has played for.

From what I'm reading on MLB Trade Rumors it is not performance related.

Zack Littell, who pitched for the Twins from '18-'20, is now pitching for the Rays. Have the game on the radio, where Rays lead the Fish, 3-1.

Scott Blewett pays the price for the Braves’ bullpen meltdown.

But the Orioles want him back more than the Twins and were willing to trade for him to get him back.

Fernando Rodney, Mr Arrow-Man, really?

Signed and playing for the Hamilton (CA) Cardinals. 48 yrs young.

"...Rodney is pitching independent ball in Canada, in a league that includes a mix of former Minor League players, a few ex-big leaguers, recent college players and semi-pro players with day jobs. The league also includes Japanese women’s pitcher Ayami Sato, who debuted for the Toronto Maple Leafs last Sunday and tossed two perfect innings."

It's no longer early in the season. All teams have played at least 60 games and the calendar has turned to June. Here is a collection of former Twins having good years:

Rob Refsnyder .292 BA   .915 OPs

Ronnie Henriquez   3-1   2.73 ERA  41 Ks in 29 innings.

Carlos Santana (ageless!) .255  .744 OPS, 1.3 WAR

Caleb Thielbar  1.93 ERA   1 save   2.59 FIP

Sonny Gray  7-1  3.35 ERA  81 Ks in 75 IP

Trevor Megill   12 SV  2.95 ERA

Emilio Pagán  15 SV   3.58 ERA

Taylor Rogers   2.66 ERA

Steven Okert  2.20 ERA  35 Ks in 28 IP

Jorge Polanco  .778 OPS  10 HR (used primarily as a DH)

Tyler Mahle  2.02 ERA (has taken his turn every 5th or 6th day)

Brent Rooker   .820 OPS  13 HR

We gonna talk about how former Twin Scott Blewett was part of one of the least improbable comebacks of all time?

D-Backs were down 10-4 in the 9th with one out, but Blewett... well, blew it!

After this recent attrition to our starting pitchers I was wondering what had happened to Huascar Ynoa, the pitcher we signed in the off-season and invited to spring training. He had a bit of success with Atlanta  before injuries slowed him down, and I thought the signing was a good one. But we sent him down to AAA before the season started and then he was released by St. Paul in mid-April. I saw that he is now playing for Yucatan in the Mexican league. Any idea why he was released or did he ask for the release himself. If he's healthy it seems like he could have been helpful to the team this season.

Interesting box score the other day when the Reds played in St. Louis. Our old pal Sonny Gray was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals, but closing out the game in the bullpen for Cincy, and the losing pitcher of record, was Chase Petty ---yes, the same player the Twins traded for Gray a few years ago. I had missed the fact that he was brought up from the minors. I wonder if they are going to keep him in the bullpen or give him a chance to start at some point?

He's been used entirely as a starter until then. Brought up for two games early this year, got shelled and sent back. He was brought up for just one game this time and immediately returned. Must have just been a huge temporary need by the Reds and he was the guy picked to fill in.

Recetly released from his AAA deal with ST Paul, Richard Lovelady has signed a major league deal with the Mets. Well, I should say Dicky Lovelady.

Not really an ex-Twin, but given Lovelady’s success at St. Paul and the historic meltdown of the pitching staff, perhaps they should have promoted Lovelady and kept him in the organization.

Charros: Suma Jalisco power to lineup with former major leaguer Kyle Garlick

https://www.milb.com/news/charros-suma-jalisco-poder-al-lineup-con-el-ex-ligamayorista-kyle-garlick

"This will be Garlick's first foray into the Mexican ball and joins Allen Cordoba, Jairus Richards, Johneshwy Fargas, Edwin Diaz, Billy Hamilton, Dwight Smith Jr and Michael Wielansky, as the imported Charros will have for the next LMB campaign."

Comings and goings of obscure ex-Twins relief pitchers:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/tigers-to-select-dietrich-enns-for-thursdays-game.html

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/athletics-release-dylan-floro.html

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/cubs-select-michael-fulmer.html

Enns pitched briefly (2 games) for the Twins way back in 2017. Floro and Fulmer were both disappointing trade deadline acquisitions, Fulmer in 2022, Floro in 2023.

Almost-a-Twin Lovelady lasted one game with the Mets. Replaced by former Twin Brandon Waddell.
