Trevor Bauer did WHAT in the Mexican League?  Should he join our rotation?

We also need to kill the "should we sign Trevor Bauer" zombie thread you're trying to raise from the dead again. That's a more useless topic and waste of space than moving Duran to the rotation.

Bauer is an abuser. He's not coming back to MLB. THE END.

Stick to topic, please. I get that this topic of Duran as starter is old and tired and one we’ve seen many times over the years, so don’t comment, then. But also don’t threadjack. Especially not to another old and tired topic, that has become a pet topic for one of you. Stop.

He throws so hard, I'd be worried about injuries if he is stretched over more innings.

This is my concern as well. There are recent studies and articles out there about the sharp rise in pitcher injuries due to increased velocity and spin. Either Duran would have to pitch fewer innings as a starter, which everyone “loves” or would have to give up a lot of velocity to make it work. And not only that, if he were to transition back a starter, that should have happened in the off-season and ST. It would be disastrous to start that now. Too late for this year. And not a good idea for ever, imo.

No, Woods-Richardson is doing just fine. Plus, Duran had not found his form yet this year in preseason .. Not to mention you would have to find a way to stretch him out ..

If the FO decides they need to convert a reliever to SP, Sands has the best chance at changing roles. He’s been good this year as a long reliever, so stretching him out a few more innings would make sense. When Duran and Topa come off the DL soon, there will be BP changes. Sands has options left to send him down to stretch him out and get ready.
Sands has been a stater not long ago in the MiLB. Another candidate would be Winder. He’s is eligible to come off the DL end of May( I think). He will have to recover and stretch out to be ready, but he could be an option (if health allows) by end of June.
Twins should focus on getting their Saints starters ready by fixing what ails Varland. If he can’t be fixed, then Festa is next man up. If he’s not going to step up this year, then the vaunted pipeline is broken and they’ll have to dip into the trade market to upgrade. No one wants to see this FO go that route again, so fingers crossed for all other options.
Duran converting to SP only if the apocalypse happens!

I appreciate the argument of a RP being available 3x a week vs 1x a week as a SP. However, the massive pay disparity favoring SP undercuts the point. MLB Execs obviously value SP way more than RP as clearly evidenced by who gets paid the most.

True, but MLB execs value a healthy RP way more than an injured SP.

I've been getting eviscerated on this site for two years for saying this very thing.  But believe it to be a smart move for a number of reasons.  Starters get paid.  Duran would like to get paid.  GUARANTEE that if he stays in the pen here he leaves as soon as be becomes eligible to become a free agent.  Even if at that point he still leaves for reliever dollars he still leaves here because we screwed him out of the chance to get starter dollars.  He only becomes a 5 inning starter if Baldelli lacks the stones to let him be a 7 inning starter.  He has an arm like nobody else.  That plays in the rotation as well as the pen.  Make it happen.  I'll wait for dozens of you to tell me I'm wrong.  You'll all be wrong.  I won't care. Don't waste your time.

If Duran wants to, sure. It should be up to the player. It is his career.

The Braves did it with Spencer Strider a few years back, and during the season.. Pitchers, any player for that matter, can get hurt anytime anywhere anyhow. Earning potential is a real thing. People can sure be selfish about other's lives

You aren't serious, are you? Littell didn't work out as a relief pitcher, so the switch made sense. Duran is usually lights out in relief. Why fix what's not broken? The idea of switching a reliever to the rotation is an interesting one. Just not Duran. And I would say so far Varland hasn't worked out, though we know that in relief he's much more reliable (a small sample, though), but apparently he wants to start and the Twins feel they can fix what's broken. Let's hope they can. I'd like to see you work out a list of who might benefit from such a switch. Not Duran, in my opinion, but there must be several in the organization. Thanks for the article.

The real insight to this article is the window into Rocco's daydreams. I'm sure some would have thought he daydreams about the walk to the mound to pull a starter in the 5th.

If Duran wants to start, he's earned that opportunity in my opinion. Starters can make so much more money.

10 innings is more than 3 innings. A run in the first inning is worth the same as a run scored in the 9th. The more your best players play, the better.

I was scintillated by this idea upon his arrival to Twinsland.

I have moved on.

Could we "afford" to pay him a starter's salary?
