And swinging early in the count in the third has only limited Junis' pitches. Mostly it isn't the approach, it is the type of hitter.

Remember, this is part of a national broadcast on MLB network.  That indicates Twins will not look that impressive as a previous playoff team from last year.

It's a lot easier to challenge hitters when ahead in the count.

No, I mean making two outs on three pitches before Julien came up. It was a virtual certainty that Julien would take the first pitch after Varland had thrown 25 pitches in the previous inning.

In the pre-game it was mentioned that hitters swinging 1st pitch vs Junis were hitting around .400. So I'm sure that was the philosophy coming into this game.

Varland is not a starting pitcher. 
idk how many more times it needs to be said. 
instead of getting a dominant reliever we’re forcing him to be a bad starter because there’s nobody else
