They didn’t “call him up to sit.” They called him up to replace a player. Without Miranda’s injury, he’s likely still in AAA.

And while the positions don’t match, it just means that Castro or Kirilloff will play the infield if Wallner plays defense, rather than the outfield if Miranda plays defense. The front office seems to have placed a premium on position flexibility, and here’s another time that that’s been beneficial.

Reputedly the players-only meeting was at least partly about two-strike strategery.  Look at close ones and flail at ones far outside wouldn't have been my advice, but what do I know.
