Game Thread: Twins (Ryan) v Orioles (Gibson), 7/9/23 @ 1:10 CT

It seems like about half the time, the Twins' lineup is posted and the opponents' is not. Does Rocco just have a lineup rotation set a week in advance on his tablet and all he has to do (unless there is an injury) is hit "send"?

Or, more generously, maybe he just works harder than the other manager and gets his assignment in early?

For the hell of it...I consulted the Magic 8 Ball this morning, and asked if we would score more than 2 runs today. I shook it a little bit and the response I got was "Sure...and I also want to talk to you about some ocean front property in Arizona". That can't be right...can it?

Not for nothing...the O's took infield.

But not our Twins.

This will never fail to disappoint me.

Do they let you in early enough on weekends to see them though?  I don't believe that they do during the week.  It's been a while since I've gotten to a game as the gates open.

I guess if you know the opposing pitcher, you know your matchups.  The only thing to really wait for would be if someone is dinged up.  No real sense in waiting to submit it at that point.  That's how I'd operate anyway.

I've got nothing positive to say today, so I wont say it.  Maybe just hope things dont get entirely out of control and jeopardize Lopez's and Gray's ability to pitch on Tuesday.

Julien is a work in progress with his glove, but his bat needs to stay in the lineup.

Oh good Lord. Seriously? It wasn’t that long ago people complained they weren’t up soon enough, ahead of others, and now we are complaining that it’s up too soon? Come on now. This is just looking for things to complain about when there are real things to complain about. Get out of the rut.

Okay Joe, show you belong in Seattle on Tuesday.

He belongs. #1 starter so far. He definitely deserves it over the Twins #3 and 4 starters. Probably the fact he's in his 2nd year. Didn't win the popularity contest over known veterans.

1 bad outing vs one of the best teams in baseball. Even the best pitchers have a bad outing. Strider has a couple starts where he got lit up.

His Chevy Big Block ERA (4.54) in June and July maybe hurts him a little though...

Now that the defense got to make a play, Ryan needs to get some quick innings or the BP will be in there by the 5th.

Indeed. He's getting a lot of swings and misses but throwing too many pitches. Ah hell. The bullpen will get 4 days off. Use em up

Not sure he deserves it over Gray, but him vs. Lopez is probably 50/50. It may have been a factor that Ryan is pitching today. That would have effectively left them a player short, since starters who pitch on Sunday generally aren't allowed to actually pitch in the game.
