If he could hit at least .230 and 35 home runs I would be OK with it.  I know the Twins were above avg in OBP.  However, they also need more productive outs and better clutch hitting.  I think more contact will help that, not less.

You'd be ok with it? There were exactly 7 major league hitters who hit 35 homeruns and over .230 last year. You'd be ok with him being 1 of 8 guys in all of baseball to do that? Even if you drop it down to 30 homeruns there were 18 guys in all of baseball to do it. Of the 21 guys to hit 30 homeruns last year (that's correct, only 21 guys in baseball hit 30 bombs) only 13 guys hit over .240. 11 guys with 30 homeruns and hit over .250. Gallo's career OBP is .325. Of those 21 hitters with 30 homers last year, only 15 of them had an OBP over .325.

Just some numbers I found interesting in comparison to the type of hitter you expect Gallo to be just to be "ok with it." That doesn't even take into account his elite outfield defense.

If we bring him in he must produce ALOT. PERIOD

I mean that's the general idea with everyone they bring in. I think we want them all to produce ALOT. Again, my stance wasn't that they should be looking at Gallo as a big signing, or even the best guy available. All I said was that if they trade Kepler and replace him with Gallo for less than $10 million it'd be a net positive move since they would've gotten something for Kepler and Gallo for Kepler is basically a wash of elite defenders with severely flawed bats. That's all. You're the one who decided it'd be a bad signing no matter what unless he produced like a top 10 bat in baseball.

They could take on Aaron Hicks contract and buy prospects from the Yankees instead.

Yeah. But I'm not interested in that unless the Yankees eat half of it and give us a decent prospect. Ugh.

That's exactly what I said

Absolutely no way on Gallo! We already have 3 LH corner OF, and that's not even including Gordon.

We NEED that RH bat and there are a handful of logical options to still help us in that way. But I'll be honest, I like Pollock as a 4th, quasi-starting RH OF option. He had a bit of a down 2022, but he's had a solid career and provided pop and speed throughout his career. I was under the impression he had a player option with the Dirty Sox, so I never thought he might be available. Have I been misinformed?

Turner is interesting depending on cost. What the Twins really need is either another SS (maybe Iglesias or Andrus or similar) to let Farmer be a super utility, OR, add another super-utility option to fill in across the diamond if Farmer remains the primary SS.

The Urshela move stands on it's own. Three weeks or so later, things have changed. They now need another infielder from somewhere. I see these moves as being independent of one another. The intervening 3 weeks have seen to that.

I don't know who the mystery man who made these comments is, but I don't know that he was necessarily that far off, if not exactly correct.

That's fair. This article has caused us to pile on the FO. While it may be fair to pile on them for other reasons, it's probably not fair to judge them based on second hand rumors.

I think that you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not piling on the FO for anything that they have done recently or what's rumored. I'm just saying how ridiculous these rumors are that Dan Hayes is reporting about. I have no idea where he's getting his stuff from. I absolutely hope that there isn't an once of truth in what's he has been saying and that this FO will do a good job this off season.

They probably traded Gio in hopes that the cash saved by trading him could go towards C4.  But now with the Giants involved, we have a hole and money to spend.  I'd prefer to play the young guys however.

That's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things

I understood. I know you aren't piling on, but many are. I think we are in agreement. When I said "that's fair" I wasn't being sarcastic.

I felt you raised a good point In  that we have to take these things with a grain of salt.

They already have Gallo on the roster, he just spells his name Wallner.

They had a cheaper version of Turner. They traded him to give 3B to Miranda full time. Pollock? Ugh. They have better on the roster.

This is my point.....you can have CC and two rookies, or you can have these three. I know which I prefer.

I think you mean they had Gallo.... Wasn't it spelled Sano?

I guess, can you have to many Gallo's.  Might as well sign him, resign Sano, and keep Wallner up full time.  Let's shoot for some records next year.  I'm sure we could get to most strikeouts by a team with those guys

Have to assume it means trades are coming. Not thrilled with the $11 million price tag, and they better make way more, and better, moves than this.

He put up 0.6 WAR last year! He's projected for 1.1.

Martin or Wallner can do that.

They are desperate to spend money and not look cheap. That's the only explanation at this point. Good thing they didn't sign Bassit.....

I hope you're sitting down, because Jeff Passan is reporting the Twins are signing Gallo to a 1 year, $11 million deal.

Then bye Bye Kepler...I hope

It's definitely a bounce back play. Hoping he returns to his Texas numbers. He was terrible in NY and LA so maybe they're hoping less pressure means he's the 138 OPS+ guy he was in Texas in 2021 before they traded him and he cratered. His glove plays. But this isn't the type of moves they should've been making with all the money they have. Bounce backs shouldn't have been the plan this offseason.

That would be my guess. Hopefully it's Kepler that gets moved and not any of the young guys.

He was bad three years ago, great two, and awful last year.

That should be the team nickname "Minnesota Twins...home of bounceback hopefuls"
