The Pitchers

RHP Dylan Bundy (3-2, 4.76 ERA, 34 K, 39.2 IP) v RHP Jose Berrios (3-2, 5.62 ERA, 36 K, 49.2 IP)

The Twins face off with old friend Jose Berrios, who has not been good thus far. His last time out against the Angels, Berrios made it through just 2.1 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with two long balls. Berrios has allowed at least 3 earned runs in his last 5 starts, and has allowed 5 or more earned runs in three of those 5. He isn't missing bats like he used to, and the statcast page looks exactly like a guy who has a 5.62 ERA. His expected ERA is 7.21, and his FIP is in the 5's. Nothing is going right for the former Twin. He still throws the same pitches, but is now throwing the FF more than any other pitch, followed by the curve, sinker, and changeup. The fastball has been crushed, giving up a slug of .638, including 4 HR. The curve has still been his best pitch, but the whiff rate is down some. The BAA is below the mendoza line, but he has given up 2 HR on the pitch. The sinker and change are still both average pitches.  Dylan Bundy has gone 5.2 and 6.0 innings his last two starts, both against the Tigers with mixed results. I'm not sure how Bundy will fair agains the Jays, but I think he'll be asked to eat innings if the game isn't close.

The Lineups

Twins

1. Luis Arraez (L) 1B
2. Byron Buxton (R) DH
3. Jorge Polanco (S) 2B
4. Trevor Larnach (L) RF
5. Jose Miranda (R) 3B
6. Nick Gordon (L) LF
7. Mark Contreras (L) CF
8. Ryan Jeffers (R) C
9. Jermaine Palacios (R) SS

Blue Jays

1. George Springer (R) CF
2. Bo Bichette (R) SS
3. Vladimir Guerrero (R) DH
4. Teoscar Hernandez (R) RF
5. Alejandro Kirk (R) C
6. Santiago Espinal (R) 2B
7. Matt Chapman (R) 3B
8. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (R) LF
9. Cavan Biggio (L) 1B

The Twins lineup looks a bit different today, with Arraez back in as a starter against a RHP, and hitting leadoff. Buxton is in the lineup again, but not in CF. Polo and Larnach are still mainstays, and Jose Miranda gets the hot corner after 2 homers last night and Gio Urshella exiting with an injury. Nick Gordon is in LF, with Mark Contreras in CF, making his first MLB start. I do find it interesting that these aren't flip flopped, as Mark primarily plays LF for the Saints with Jake Cave in CF, and Gordon has played a good CF. Jeffers is behind the dish again with Sanchez out of the lineup, and Palacios gets another start at SS, where he has done very good on defense. The Jays lineup looks largely the same, with Vlad at DH and Biggio sliding to first. Kirk, one of the best hitting catchers in the game, gets the start behind the dish. Matt Chapman, a perennial gold glover, will start at 3rd.

Vegas Odds: Twins +140, Blue Jays -160, O/U 8.5

On This Day:  1974 - On Ten-Cent Beer Night at Cleveland, unruly fans stumble onto the field and cause the Indians to forfeit the game to the Rangers with the score tied 5-5 in the ninth inning.

Pick to Click: Byron Buxton takes his old teammate deep in the first inning

Prediction: Jays 7, Twins 5

Go Twins!!

I hope your prediction today is as good as yesterday's! ;)

So according to the Twins' site, Garlick and Urshela left with minor injuries yesterday and are not in the lineup today. Does that make Sanchez the only bench player, or am I counting incorrectly?

Not in the lineup, but does it say they are also unavailable? I don't know the extent of their injuries, so just asking

Doesn't really say.

Here's the link: https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-injuries-and-roster-moves

It says Garlick left with mild hamstring strain and is "undergoing evaluation." Urshela is listed as "day-to-day."

I hope that Buxton's injury god doesn't choose today for his next injury. The thought of Sanchez in CF is truly frightening!

Edit: Maybe that's why Buxton is DH today...

I am seeing 2:07 start time listed...

That's what I see as well.

Remember the year that the White Sox sold the timing rights to 7-11, and all their regular home games started at 7:11?

I know it's a big "if", but if we get a half decent start from Bundy, we can beat these guys again. Berrios is struggling. He has a 5.62 ERA, 61 hits in 49.2 innings, with a 1.51 WHIP. He's given up 9 HR's so far too. We can beat him!

I wonder whether the vaccination situation in Canada affected which broadcasters are doing this series.

I believe Provus and Atteberry both tested positive during last week and were removed from the booth during the Tiger series for that reason. I don't think the governmental policies of Canada came into play.

Hmmm … me, too

I had this written down in my calendar as a 2:37 start time for some reason. Not the online mistake I've made this week, but it'll certainly be the last.

I hadn't heard about Provus and Atteberry, but I thought it was kind of strange that Danny was doing the game with Laudner on Thurs. I just happened to be driving Thurs afternoon and caught that act. Let's just say Timmy isn't going to land a regular radio analyst gig any time soon.

Many of us think Gladden shouldn't have a regular radio gig either...

We've got the Angel show behind home plate today too. Get ready for some real questionable ball/strike calls.

I hear what you're saying....he's not the best, that's for sure. I'm kind of used to his banter now. I can live with it.

Guaranteed at least 10 pitches 9 inches off plate called strikes.  Half those in key AB'S

He's good at telling stories and he'll make the occasional humorous remark. But he can't do play-by-play to save his life.

Bout time that Polo did something. Let's hope Bundy does a decent job, and let's get some more off Berrios!
