Henriquez can slide into the rotation spot, I guess. And we have Sanchez to also pick-up innings.

Although it would be nice if Varland could get another start (or two).

This is among the mysteries that shall remain unsolved from the 2022 Twins. I agree that he was a clearly better option out of the bullpen than Pagan, all year.

Cotton has a shiny ERA and that's about it.  His FIP comes in at 5.48.  His K/BB is less than 2.  If you want to compare to Pagan, his FIP is 4.49, K/BB is over 3.  They give up HR at roughly the same pace.  Pagan has seen more innings, and obviously a lot more late innings, but to say Cotton was clearly a better option is pretty inherently false.  That being said, I don't want to see either of them pitch for the Twins next season.

Sounds like neither one of us would miss either guy. You are looking at different numbers than me. Cotton was much better than Pagan if looking at WHIP and AVE, I believe (top of my head/memory). I tend to like pitchers who have less traffic on the bases and are not an easy at bat for a hit. While Pagan may have had some bad luck, it might be better to agree that he was bad luck for the Twins on too many occasions. Cotton did not have the backing of Falvey/Baldelli or we may have seen him more often and had an opportunity to see more of his faults. The Pagan usage had some similarities to what we saw with Colome, which raises questions.

Aaron Sanchez DFA'd, Louis Varland called up to start tonight.

And the lesson is if you are  Twins reliever never volunteer for mop up duty. You'll get DFA'd the next day

I'm sure he knew it was coming anyways. He wasn't coming back next year now that the team is out of the playoff chance.

Sigh.

I mean.....it sure seemed like surgery this offseason was inevitable for awhile now.  Waiting until they were mathematically out of it to announce to get it seems accurate.

The old "pitch long relief today, head to the minors tomorrow" shuttle.

Why not put Bundy on waivers. Maybe save a week's salary?

Megill to the IL, Aaron Sanchez selected, Garlick moved to the 60-day IL.

It makes sense that they added somebody who could give some length to the bullpen. Not sure if there's anything to read into adding Sanchez, specifically, back to the roster just for one series. Maybe a small signal that the Twins would be interested in bringing him back next year? ... or more likely they just think his arm is fresh.

?  Like what? They've had more injuries than any other team.

I don’t think there has been horrible roster management. They have gone deeper into the organization than anyone expected.

I guess they want to keep Sanchez in the organization, perhaps? Interesting how the Twins had this whole crop of reusable parts pitchers that couldn't leave (a couple did right at the end) or Sanchez, D. Rodriguez, Cotton, Minaya.)

I would rather have seen the elevation os Sisk, a lefty to watch, for the last three games. Give him a taste of the majors.
