GAME THREAD: 5/7/21, Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers, 6:10 CDT

I would argue that their inability to build on leads is just as big a problem. That puts too much pressure on the pitching to be perfect late in games, which they clearly aren't capable of doing.

Ultimately, a run is a run. It really doesn’t matter where it comes from. Run scoring and run prevention are two sides of the same coin.

Unfortunately that coin is no longer currency for the Twins.

Jeeze, looking at the tigers’ averages in the box score reads like an old national highway atlas

Rosterman just blew my mind in the Ex-Twins thread. It appears that the Angels booted HOF Albert Pujols for former Twins legend Drew Butera.

yeah ... maybe next year I'll just purchase the audio package and be done with it ...

As a season ticketholder, we get mlb.tv for free, but that doesn't do us a lot of good for blacked out games. It's nice to have it for out of market games though. I'm also a Cardinals fan, so I watch a lot of their games. I end up using it just as much, if not more, for the audio service. I'll listen to random day games at work all of the time.

Definitely. Doubling down on the same side of the coin isn't a recipe for success.

Even sano hasn’t been as bad as Cabrera. But he’s got two hits. Sano hasn’t done that in one game yet this year

I thought this was exaggeration, but holy crap, you're right. My gosh, he's been horrid at the plate. He does have 3 games with multiple walks... but that's it.

Quite an ugly end to two all-time great hitters in Pujols and Cabrera. Man, they've put up some ugly numbers.

I was actually talking about Sano...

Ha! Not like Cabrera has been lighting it up though, either.

Regardless, I'll take that as a sign that I've had enough Scotch for the evening!

It’s rarely pretty at the end for the legends... Derek Jeter put up -1.5 WAR his last 2 seasons with an OPS below .600. A-Rod got the abrupt release just like Pujols after he was batting .200 and .598 OPS. We were pretty fortunate to see a decent Torii Hunter at the end of his career!

Edit: Jim Thome too. Paul Bunyan in disguise!

If we can only put up 2 runs against Tarik ****ing Skubal it won’t feel like a W

No doubt. I hate it when it happens, but also appreciate when a legend goes out before it gets to that point. I admire the guys that can go out on their own terms.

Yeah, I wonder if Pujols regrets not retiring before his career BA fell below .300? That’s really special to say you’re a .300 or better hitter over a 15-20 year career. As long as Miggy doesn’t continue dragging out his career he’ll end it as an above .300 hitter.

Agreed. He's obviously a 1st ballot guy anyway, but I agree with the .300 mark as being a bit more special for a career of that length. Even though he had some good and productive seasons in Anaheim, his BA has never been there for basically the entire contract. Shows how good he was in his prime.

I'd say Miguel Cabrera has 64 million reasons to stay unretired through at least 2023.  I doubt he will remain above .300 unless it is the collective decision of MLB to spare him that particular ignominy.

I'm not a meteorologist but based on the radar I'm sure the starters are done for the evening. The fate of this game lies with the bullpens.

Is it worse for a rainout to wipe out a 2-0 lead or for the bullpen to do so? We all know it's one or the other, right?

As often as he's hurt, it's entirely possible that he doesn't play enough to dip below .300.

Though, given Detroit's luck , he'll probably stay healthy and put up abysmal numbers and end up like Pujols.

I'm late to the party; Kyle Garlick batting lead off?

The man’s got two hits.

It was fun seeing him dominate with St Louis as a teenager when my life revolved around sports sports sports. I’ll never forget when he broke Brad Lidge in the playoffs hitting a moon shot over their train at Houston’s stadium.
