and all football games should be 3 quarters and hockey games 2 periods, church should only be 1/2 hour and nobody should live past 60

I was with ya there, right up till the end.

Looks like Hansel is coming in. He's so hot right now.

I wouldn’t mind having him throw both the 8th and 9th here if he gets through the 8th with no problems.

lol football is fine the way it is because of how much action there is. don't watch hockey so I can't comment on that.

I like baseball the way it used to be, 9 innings long, boring pitchers duels, every rule change they make ruins the game a little more

You had me there until you got to that not living past 60 thing...

I've been waiting all season to pull out that one.

Great reference. Treat yourself to an orange mocha frappuccino for that

My point was, enjoy life whatever it has to offer, if baseball is too boring for you, don’t watch it

it's boring for a lot of people, even hardcore fans. 3.5 nine inning games are awful

They lowered the mound and it’s hard to argue that was anything but a resounding success.

I prefer rule changes like this, or moving the mound back, or tweaking the baseball itself, rather than larger changes that limit strategy, like a shift restriction. While the shift doesn't lead to more action, it does reward teams who are more strategic, which can be entertaining in itself, IMO.

This is all on Baldelli.  He looks at his f'n pile of papers more than he watches the game.  Pineda was amazing today and never under duress.

my opinion, and people are going to hate it, but all games should be 7 innings long. could shave 45 minutes to an hour off of each game

But nothing more ridiculous than a 7-inning game with 8 relief pitchers sitting in the bullpen. In a couple years time an average start would be 3 innings, batters would still face 5 different pitchers a game, and the 45 minutes saved would be down to about 15 minutes. I’m cynical of everything that doesn’t put a hard restriction on number of pitchers available.

I think they could start alternate leagues to test all these ideas, but leave MLB alone

Which is why I used to like the shift but now, like so many things, it's an afterthought deployed by almost all teams in baseball. It has reached the saturation point where it's well past "strategy" and into "common practice", which even further limits the reasons for it to continue existing as an interesting aspect of gamesmanship.

if you can find a way to make starters go 6 innings consistently, that would be a huge help

> In the earliest version of base ball—two words back then—games were not nine innings long. Instead, teams played until one side scored 21 runs, which, at the time, were called “aces.”

> In the early days, outfielders could put out base runners not just by tagging but also by throwing the ball at them before they reached the base.

> Batters had the right to request a low or high pitch from 1867 to 1887

> Pitchers were required to throw underhand until 1883

> Rather than crouching, catchers would stand a few feet behind home until the early 1900s

> The spitball was outlawed in 1920 -- but pitchers who had been throwing it for years were grandfathered in

> Ground rule doubles were actually home runs as recently as 1930
