sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 5 things to think about before the game. Or at least to think about thinking about.1. Home Opener. I really should have some epic music cued up (or is that queued up?) I'm sure something will suggest itself.2. The other team. The Mariners. No, not the merry nurse. Neither the Ancient Mariner for those of you who are Coleridge fans or Iron Maiden fans. They were an expansion team in 1977 from just before St. Helens blew.Er... I haven't paid much attention of late to how they are doing nowadays...3. Our team. The Twins. We aren't playing too badly so far. But modesty and humility are virtues. Besides, i wouldn't want to jinx us.4. Baseball. It is a game requiring a lot of hand eye coordination, not to mention, bats, gloves, a field with bases and lines. Did i miss anything?5. Food! I'm hungry. When do we eat?Mariners0. Marco Gonzales ( L) P1. Mitch Haniger (R ) RF2. Ty France (R ) DH3. Kyle Seager ( L) 3B4. J. Marmolejos ( L) 1B5. Dylan Moore (R ) 2B6. T. Trammell ( L) CF7. Luis Torrens (R ) C8. Sam Haggerty ( S ) LF9. J.P. Crawford ( L) SSTwins0. Jose Berrios (R ) P1. Jorge Polanco ( S ) 2B2. Kyle Garlick (R ) LF3. Nelson Cruz (R ) DH4. Byron Buxton (R ) CF5. Mitch Garver (R ) C6. Max Kepler ( L) RF7. Miguel Sano (R ) 1B8. A. Simmons (R ) SS9. Luis Arraez ( L) 3BPs. Will add epic music as i go, but < 2 hours to game time, and i figure folk are getting antsy. And sorry for mispelling Sam's last name. And evidently i am unable to hit a spacebar on a touch screen...
bighat Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Arraez in the 9th spot, interesting. Baldelli must be playing a hunch with Polanco. Look at Bux anchoring that 4 spot, the guy has turned into a beast. Let's go!
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 Epic music #1 As i mentioned it already i guess i'm required toinclude this TL,DR: don't let old coots start telling you stories.

Look at Bux anchoring that 4 spot, the guy has turned into a beast. Let's go!I hadn't caught that, though i on second glance, they are throwing a lefty at us... or rather a lefty is throwing to us, so it makes matchup sense to lead with the right.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 Epci music #2, still thematically appropriate, if set to older music: Cue line: BOATSWAIN:. What is to be done with this here hopeless chap? Let us sing him the song that Sir Joseph has kindly composed for us. Perhaps it will bring this here miserable creetur to a proper state of mind. (is quoted in a Star Trek TNG movie, as well as Raiders)
twinbythebay Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I enjoyed some nice strawberry Marmolejos on my toast this morning.

jun Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I would like to see more Jeffers behind the plate. Why do they start Garver two days straight?
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Carnac the Magnificent: <holds envelope to forehead> “Say here’s to Kyle”Ed McMahon: Say here’s to… wait, shouldn’t that be, say hi to Kyle for me?Carnac: Not really.Ed: Or maybe, Say Hey Kid?Carnac: Look, buy yourself a turban, then you can do the mind-reading trick.Ed: Heaven has no brighter star than you oh great Sage. I would not presume.Carnac: And yet... ya kinda did, didn't ya.Ed: My apologies.Carnac: May your proctologist be a frustrated concert trombonist.Ed: Cruel, but fair.Carnac: It comes with the job description.Ed: In any case, no one knows the contents of the envelope but you.Carnac: So are you going to jabber all day, or shall I open it?Ed: Please do so. Again, the answer to which is: “Say here’s to Kyle.”Carnac: <opens, blows, removes card> “What’s the recipe for Garlick toast?”Ed: Hi-yo!

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Isn’t Trammell the prospect who Cincy gave up for Bauer in the 3 way trade? I think he was very highly rated.

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 I've got nothing going yet on MLB.tv Is there a rain delay?I don't know. Just turning things on myself. I imagine there are extra special home opening day festivities, like fly overs and such.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 Apparently Haniger has Berrios' number: 17. Or vice versa. Hard to tell.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Apparently Haniger has Berrios' number: 17. Or vice versa. Hard to tell. Both debuted in 2016, but Berrios was in April, and Haniger in August. Thus, it is properly Berrios' number.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 ... Nice subterfuge on this one! At first, I thought this joke would be about Kyle Gibson, then maybe Willie Mays, then finally, maybe about Scott Proctor, relief pitcher in the mid-2000s (emphasis on “relief”)

ashbury Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Arraez in the 9th spot, interesting. Baldelli must be playing a hunch with Polanco.Hunch or whatever, but Rocco wants Polanco to have one more plate appearances than Arraez, 8 chances out of 9. I'm not sure I agree with taking those odds.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Nice subterfuge on this one!Cruel, but fair, I like to call it.
