johnnydakota Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 What happens if Joe benson,Chris Parmelee and Mr.hicks are not ready for prime time? What if Darren Mastroanni isnt a full time player? What if Josh Willingham is the best defensive outfielder we have in 2013?What if Terry is wrong about Florimon and Dozier can not handle shortstop? What if bone chips in fact are a precurser to tommy john surgery, and both Scott Diamonds and Worely are done for the season by June? What if Harden and Pelfrey both imitate Zumyaya and never make it out of spring training? What if klank Ploufe continues to have a stone hands? What if as most predict Correias ERA translates into the low 5.00s in the A.L.?What if Nick Blackburn is our best starter? Yes i understand it all could be just the oppisite and we are playing meaningful games come SeptemberBut im guessing we challenge the Cleveland spider as the worst team ever , rather then play in the post season ...
kryptik Provisional Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 We'll have some more good draft picks.

johnnydakota Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Then we'll suck. Are you serious? Well i do have concerns, dont you? Iprefer to be playing meaningful games in september, or for that fact meaningful games in july....

Top Gun Provisional Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Then we got the wavier wire for pick ups. It's all good it's the Ryan way.
glunn Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 There are lots of things that can go wrong this year. But there are also a lot of things that could surprise on the upside.
Highabove Provisional Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 People will turn their attention to Gopher Football.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 We will still win 54 games.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 This thread actually gives me hope. Yes, every thing bad on this list could happen. But it's when everything looks completely hopeless that you have the best chance of a surprise on the upside. What if Hicks and Parmelee blossom this year into steady players? And Mastroianni is a steady 4th outfielder? What if the rotation gells in a way we don't expect end puts up a decent ERA? (or ERA+? or xFIP? or whatever is the hot stat these days?)What if the infield plays well enough to compete and doesn't completely suck? What if Mauer and Morneau have good years and become the M&M boys again? Will all this happen? Probably not. But I'm not going to assume that all the bad stuff will either. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm going to hold off assuming doom until at least May. And I'd be happy with a 500 team.
old nurse Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 If all of your what ifs happen it will take quite a few more beers and brats for Leviathan to watch a game. Three days after the end of the season he would wind up in detox. With so many brats on board he would end up a contestant on the weight loss show.

You didn't even bother to bury it in a post paragraph. 2. Inappropriate language, including swearing and related censor bypass attempts, lewdness, and crude terms for body parts, bodily functions, and physical acts. Overall, we don’t want any language that a parent would not want their kid to see.

beckmt Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 This is what this season is about. Could be like 2000. The Twins need to figure out what they have and who can help them next year. So if this year is lost, we will have a much better idea of what the Twins have coming quickly next year.

jun Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 What happens if Joe benson,Chris Parmelee and Mr.hicks are not ready for prime time? Likely. What if Darren Mastroanni isnt a full time player? Very likely. What if Josh Willingham is the best defensive outfielder we have in 2013? Very unlikely. What if Terry is wrong about Florimon and Dozier can not handle shortstop? I am not sure about what you meant, I think Dozier has a better chance at succeeding at that position, Florimon is just a waste of roster spot. What if bone chips in fact are a precurser to tommy john surgery, and both Scott Diamonds and Worely are done for the season by June? Very unlikely. What if Harden and Pelfrey both imitate Zumyaya and never make it out of spring training? It's unlikely it would happen for both though. What if klank Ploufe continues to have a stone hands? Very likely. What if as most predict Correias ERA translates into the low 5.00s in the A.L.? Very likely. What if Nick Blackburn is our best starter? Very unlikely, it's hard to find anyone worse. It's going to be long season ahead.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Oh, everything that can go wrong does go wrong? How interesting! Indeed, let's have a sister thread where we can hold hands over all the things that can go right! Won't that be fun.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm not sure what the point of this thread is... some of that stuff will happen, and some won't. Benson's inclusion here is interesting given that I doubt he heads north with the team. I somehow doubt Hicks does too. Parmalee has shown he has nothing left to prove in AAA, so whether he's ready or not, he gets his shot, and hopefully an entire season to figure things out. Will he have his bumps? Probably. I think at this point you should just accept the fact that 80 wins is the ceiling (and a fairly unlikely one at that). Let the kids play and figure things out. Collect a few more high draft picks to help fill some spots for 2015...
Bombo Rivera Verified Member Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I think everyone is coming to grips with the reality that the Twins won't be very good this year. The pitching rotation is well below average and the middle IF and CF positions are a mystery with no really good in-house options. Plus the Tigers were in the World Series last year and are probably a better team this coming summer. Add to that the improvements made by the Indians and Royals and I think we are unfortunately looking at close to or more than 100 losses again this summer.
