Target Field - music between pitches

It’s not just the Pirates’ announcers who think it’s awful. It’s awful. They need to stop it. I’m mostly ok with the MLB The Show crowd noises being used the background of empty stadiums (to an extent), but the seven seconds of blared music in between visiting pitches seriously detracts from the game. It makes it seem like they aren’t playing a major league baseball game.

Is there any hope of getting them to knock it off?

On a related note it appears that they have given the organist the year off. That's unfortunate because it would at least be tolerable as a baseball sound.

Home games for the Twins have become almost impossible to watch. Don't forget, they were doing this last year also. The music is absolutely out of hand and it sounds like there are a couple of 12 year-olds on meth up there working the sound machine.

How do we complain? Post a note in the Star Trib message board? Who would read it? I'm not sure who we'd even complain to....

St. Peter I believe is responsible for ballpark experience. Someone reports to him that is the man or woman on the ground.

I agree. It's just noise for noise's sake. Then again, I struggle with all the forced noise even when I am at the ballpark. The constant air raid noises and prompts to cheer get old, quickly. Its like someone got a new toy and can't get enough of it.

I used to be able to ignore it, but last summer I went to a game at which my friend who was there with me pointed out that it was EVERY BLEEPING TIME between pitches. And it's LOUD. My friend said, "What would happen if the Twins had epilepsy awareness night?"

Reminds me of an Arena league football game, annoying music from the whistle to about 10 seconds before the snap. I attended one and never again.

It could be worse. The Twins could could be running ads in-between the pitches for 1-8-7-7 Kars for Kids or Gotta Make a Stop at the Futon Shop.

I've seen studies that suggest fans buy more beer/concessions in loud environments? Of course, no fans are present in 2020 -- but I think the players have gotten used to it, and enjoy it. I strongly suspect the music doesn't seem nearly as loud on the field as it is in the stands (since the speakers are all directly above the stands).

Yeah ... my guess is if it bothered the players, it would be gone. I simply don't notice it, but I'm usually not watching the game all that carefully ... I'm listening while doing other things. The one thing about that that's off this year ... through crowd noises you could tell if something major is about to happen/is happening/happened, so I knew when to pay attention ... that's absent this year.

But, I think someone above posted the correct suggestion ... write to Dave St. Peter. Make your voices heard. Maybe we are a small minority? (Doubtful, but I suppose it's possible.) It's certainly fine to commune with one another our displeasure, but, we all could do something about it, too.

I, for one, want a game where the organist is there ... I will write about that because ... it's yet another musician out of work and it wouldn't be that big of a deal to have her come in every so often. She could play 'Take me out to the Ballgame' at the  7th inning ... and get the players to sing along ... I'm sure Romo could lead the bullpen in that. Not sure how well the 'Charge' call would go, though, without fans present ... but I still think that would be something to try.

Playing walk up music once, is tolerable...more than once is a waste. Besides, it sometimes drowns out what the announcers are saying (as though that may be of some interest.) :)

Sue Nelson! Yes, I wonder what her circumstances are in 2020. It would be nice to hear her in the broadcasts.

I've noticed that too. I used to love the "Park Audio" option on MLB.TV but that's gone this year (hopefully just temporarily).

Oh God, please no!

The MLB app (and probably the website too) has a thing where you can click to add crowd noise to the stadium.

The music between pitches allows you to have sounds you can interact with (and make louder by clapping or cheering with the music).

If the stadium seems loud on broadcasts, it's not just that they are piping in crowd noise, it's that people at home are "cheering" along.

There is a tennis league that does it too.  Now that's REALLY jarring.

I went through the Yearbook that was mailed to me as a season ticket holder and didn't see any reference to Sue Nelson. I'd be interested if anyone saw anything, but if I am correct, they may have phased her out this year.

She is not in last years Yearbook so I wouldn't read anything in to that.

OK I'm surprised because the video and audio guy we are complaining about is.

I recycle them as soon as I get them.
