Gibson had been seriously sick. Calling him a bum is inexcusable.

Bum may have been too harsh, but mediocre is certainly fair. And it’s not solely based on this year or this month or whatever. Mediocre.

I still remember people telling me signing Corbin would be a mistake.....

well for someone with your financial resources, it probably would have been. Plus, what would you do with him? Have him do odd jobs around the house?

oh please, If he’s so sick he shouldn’t be out there

Those are two very different things. Seriously. But sure, he lost all kinds of weight and strength, and he's gutting it out for his teammates, instead of cheating and being suspended... And he's the bum.....

You'd be surprised how much work a 100 year old house needs....

there can be more than one bum. And cheating is a little harsh , MLB , trying to make up for allowing steroid use for years , now has a ban list that’s more ridiculous than serious, pretty soon bananas will be banned

I took a paycut to move to a place I wanted to live. I think a lot of people would rather be happy in a place they love than live in a place they don't like to make more money.

??!?

Andrew Luck falls into the set of “every other person”;

You hear about players going for “fit” all the time;

I should have left the "every other person" part out, but FWIW, Corbin's contract has little or no effect on where he will live. So it's not really comparable to you or me taking a paycut to live in a particular place.

Andrew Luck walked away from money to preserve his health, which is a very, very different thing.

I don't think every player takes the top offer, but most players probably don't take less than ~5% less than the top offer either. It's not like there are many guys in Corbin's position taking $80 mil contracts with the Yankees or Dodgers instead of $140 mil with the Nationals (as much as the Yankees and Dodgers would like them to!).

And aren't there quite a few players who have rejected NY because of "fit"? Because they don't want to be under that media microscope? How do we know that doesn't apply to Corbin too, and he was fortunate that Washington is *also* a winner and *also* offered the most money?

This is a really weird guy/decision to criticize.

Gibson doesn't inspire much confidence from fans or fear in opponents. And yet he's a top 20 starter by xFIP and 37th in WAR among qualifiers.

It's partly that his career had a rough start, partly that the bar for what constitutes a good starter is lower now than in the past, and partly that intangible Gibby thing that just makes him look like he's gonna get Charlie Brown'ed every time he takes the mound.

I completely don't understand Baldelli in this game. You have a dozen relievers out there. Gibson has NOTHING. You could really, really use a win. You're already playing with a lineup that is almost certainly gonna struggle to score.

You can't let Gibson keep making this game harder.
