I would think well-conditioned athletes can function much better than most of us in the heat. But playing in 98F for days on end is going to wear anyone down, especially if it's your home field. My guess is that it's a net negative for the Rangers.

Texas had fifth-best home record in AL before we rolled into town.

There's been a lot of talk about hot weather in Texas this weekend. This makes sense for Minnesotans and Portlanders. But most Major League players grew up in tropical or sub-tropical places, either in the Caribbean on in the southern United States. I'd be interested to know whether these players who grew up playing in heat are as much affected as we northerners feel like we would be. Any thoughts?

 

I think 98 humid degrees is hot.

 

I think it is taxing on players physically, regardless if they grew up in it or if they come from Yellowknife.

I know Odor is still awfully young but I also believe that the Rangers have shown incredible patience with him. 

 

Yes he has some power but his numbers have been consistently below average to bad for 3 years now. 

 

The Rangers must feel that he has a specific role in the future.

 

Such as holding the door shut at a key moment while the White Walkers are trying to get through.

I still think he'd be pretty good out of the pen... Given his decline as the league figured him out, I'm wondering if his option gets picked up at all... Hopefully he can still adjust b/c right now we need some solid pitching down the stretch... and quite frankly we haven't gotten enough of it of late.

I'm not so sure about Perez in the pen. Maybe, but walks are the last thing you want out of a reliever, and his splits aren't good pitching from the stretch.

 

So bringing him into an I nong with runners on seems like trouble.

Also, “former Ranger” is another possible role
