Don Walcott Verified Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Is this gun hot? Lynn was hitting 97 MPH a few times and Perez just did too.Possibly. Despite what Smalley said earlier, Lynn does throw in the mid-90s consistently.
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 I would think well-conditioned athletes can function much better than most of us in the heat. But playing in 98F for days on end is going to wear anyone down, especially if it's your home field. My guess is that it's a net negative for the Rangers.Texas had fifth-best home record in AL before we rolled into town.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Both teams choose to wear dark jerseys in 100 degree weather.Well, Texas wore red yesterday with the Star Trek thread, and we know how that worked out for them

glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Both teams choose to wear dark jerseys in 100 degree weather.I think that white would be cooler when the sun is shining. Science.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 It would be nice to run up another big lead today. Bullpen is likely tired.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Is this gun hot? Lynn was hitting 97 MPH a few times and Perez just did too.I hope not. That would put Berrios at about 90 yesterday.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 There's been a lot of talk about hot weather in Texas this weekend. This makes sense for Minnesotans and Portlanders. But most Major League players grew up in tropical or sub-tropical places, either in the Caribbean on in the southern United States. I'd be interested to know whether these players who grew up playing in heat are as much affected as we northerners feel like we would be. Any thoughts? I think 98 humid degrees is hot. I think it is taxing on players physically, regardless if they grew up in it or if they come from Yellowknife.

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Lynn won't reach 5 innings with that pitch count, in this heat with that body.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Rosario swinging at pitches that are way outside.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 There is literally no pitch that can be thrown that Rosario won't hack at.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Five pitches, five balls. Rosario swings at all of them.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 And if they shift against a lefty slugger, only need one on the right side of the infield... Might that be Godot?dunno, but weird shift. Was this lefty "slugger" named Mauer?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Perez has really good stuff. Just continually struggles to command it.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Really hard to watch Twins starters, except Pineda
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Glad that inning is over. Now Twins need to run up the lead.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 I know Odor is still awfully young but I also believe that the Rangers have shown incredible patience with him. Yes he has some power but his numbers have been consistently below average to bad for 3 years now. The Rangers must feel that he has a specific role in the future. Such as holding the door shut at a key moment while the White Walkers are trying to get through.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Really hard to watch Twins starters, except Pinedahard to watch all of them, if you have Dish or Sling.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Perez has really good stuff. Just continually struggles to command it. I still think he'd be pretty good out of the pen... Given his decline as the league figured him out, I'm wondering if his option gets picked up at all... Hopefully he can still adjust b/c right now we need some solid pitching down the stretch... and quite frankly we haven't gotten enough of it of late.

Maybe, but walks are the last thing you want out of a reliever, and his splits aren't good pitching from the stretch. So bringing him into an I nong with runners on seems like trouble.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Danny Santana is our friend today.
