I wouldn't go as far as to say we need him to play mostly every day. He's not a proven hitter or fielder in the Bigs yet. Also he has shown very little power. Schoop has proven himself both hitting and fielding so he should be the everyday 2nd baseman. Arraez could be a great utility man for the Twins this year or next.

Edit: Actually Arraez would be better off getting as many at bats as he can. So having him in a utility role for the Twins this year wouldn't be as beneficial as him playing everyday in AAA.

Play him. Don’t call him up to watch.

His time here might be short so let’s have a look.

His range at second base seems impressive (4.7 per 9 innings) and at SS 4.4. It would appear then that he gets to an awful lot of batted balls. He just turned 22, he hardly ever strikes out. What's not to like? (Having not seen him play.)

Likely a quick look-see at this kid.

They're not DFA'ing Adrianza. This is just going to be a quick look at this kid. Odd move because he hits lefthanded and the Twins will be going against lefties for the next 3 days. Might be here for 2 series, play sparingly, then go back down. Nothing wrong with the move, but I don't expect to see him play much. Maybe start one game if that, put him in if there's a blowout.

I don't want to consider any form of platooning. Light platoon, heavy platoon, temporary platoon or long term platoon for a 22 year old who has zero AB's at the MLB level and especially a player who has hit every where he has been.

The organization doesn't need to take young prospects and turn them into platoon specialists at a young age. Yes, I know we are talking about a possible cup of coffee that won't ruin him but there is no reason to treat him like he's Shin Soo Choo with zero AB's.

You don't call up a right handed hitter and sit him against right-handers because of the high percentage of RH's so let's not treat left handed hitters differently. Lefties already have big enough issues with those spiral notebooks leaving marks on their hand when they try to take notes. Let's not punish them at the plate as well.  :)

We may need Arraez and we may need him this year. None of us can predict the future. Let's see how he does against left and right handed pitchers.

The Twins should be focused on developing future value with Arraez and if he can't hit left-handers... he won't develop enough value and he will never hit lefthanders if you are thinking platoon on day one.

He's here with the Dogs now... Throw him to the Dogs. (I was gonna use Wolves for this sentence but I didn't want Andrew Wiggins anywhere near him).  :)

Play Him!!!

I haven't seen him play either but I'll be giving him a fair shake right from the beginning.

I look forward to seeing him play and I'll be bummed if I don't.

Arraez "cannot hit lefthanders" is an urban legend.

Career against LHP (indicating PAs and the level of competition.)

2019: .318/.348/.364 46 PA (AAA and AA)
2018: .279/.323/.369 103 PA (AA)
2017: .600/.600/.600 5 PA (A+)
2016: .333/.378/.422 112 PA (A)
2015: .302/.375/.395 48 PA (GCL)
2014: .316/.480/.368 25 PA (DSL)

Of, course his batting average against RHP is about 30-40 points better, but I'd take a career .310 or so batting average against LHPs any time of the day.

He can hit.  Period.  Lefties and righties.

There’s six games on this trip before Cruz is eligible to return. I’d expect to see Arraez in 3-4 of them in some capacity. Much like Polanco was used in his first callups.

This does seem like exactly the kind of hitter to ultimately fill the lead-off spot.

I wasn't suggesting that he couldn't hit left-handers... I was saying that if he isn't allowed to hit left-handers then he won't in the future.

I'm saying Play Him... Play him tonight.

What a surprise, pleasant surprise.  But with Cruz going on the IL, their options were limited and getting Arraez a taste of the show makes sense.

Hopefully he will get into a game or two before he goes back.  Or could he be one of those players who comes up and shocks everyone and never goes back?  We will see, although I doubt it will be tonight as I suspect he is spending much of the day in an airplane.

Ben Revere II, at the plate. Less speed on the bases. Does he smile a lot? How many utility guys does a team need? But good for him. I hope he hit .344 while he is here.

I know that he’s injured, but I’m really starting to doubt that Gordon will ever play a major league game for the Twins. Anyways, Go Tortuga 2.0!!!

Actually, a player can be recalled within 10 days of being optioned if he's replacing a player going on the DL IL, so Cave was also an option. He's been ice cold all year, though. Torreyes too. And Wade hasn't done much at AAA but draw walks, even with the juiced ball. And we're already at 13 pitchers.

Not that Arraez isn't interesting in his own right!

Took his 0 fer 5 with 3ks to Charlotte last night........ (1/13 in his return to AAA Rochester in 3 games). I look forward to better options, personally.

I think they are just punishing Schoop for a couple games for faking out Cron, and bringing a kid to take a few of his at bats away.  ;)

Jorge Polanco is the Twins' second baseman of the future, just as soon as Royce Lewis gets here.  Luis Arraez is the Twins super-utility of the future.  He'll replace Adrianza next year, and Gonzalez the year after, unless something goes quite wrong.

Well, I certainly didn't see this one coming.

I think I'm like 1 for 40 in predicting Falvey/Levine moves since they've been here.  Call-ups, DFA's , 26th man, etc...  They're nothing if not unpredictable!

Pronunciation check here..

Is it more like Aw-RYE-ez or AR-ee-ez

We need a spell check too. I swear half the time it's spelled Arraez and the other half Arreaz. I guess we'll see which one is on his jersey.

I'm guessing it'll be the first one: uh-RYE-ez. If it's not, then it would be uh-RAY-ahz.

This presumes that:

Lewis will stick at SS and/or his fielding will be better than Polanco's (a soon to be All Star Shortstop.)  Not sure that either of this will happen.

He is 19, never played above A ball, and he is currently having a .630 OPS at Fort Myers.  He is better than that but got plenty to prove yet.

Also with the Twins probably on the look out to trade with a team for a RP and Royce Lewis on Gordon's heels, I think there is a very real possibility of Gordon not playing a major league game for the Twins.

I also think that's the case but possibly not this deadline. Gordon, while good for a short time, has been fighting injuries. I doubt Falvine let him go unless a team is ready to offer good value in July, which I think is unlikely.

I suspect an offseason deal is more likely to happen.

Not sure we'll see much of Arraez, with Sano back and the rest of the MLB infield at full strength. Maybe we'll see him late in a lopsided game, or starting in the Sunday game?

I would hope they would plan to have Arraez play. Why not let him DH?

Arraez has played almost exclusively at 2b for his pro career. He has made 250 starts at 2b, 50 at 3b, 25 at ss and 3 in the OF. I doubt he’s a legitimate fielder anywhere other than 2b.
