Took awhile to find the game thread, with its misleading headline. I thought this was an old one.

I made dinner last night for a hopeful significant other... And completely butchered it. The recipe on Pinterest looked easy enough, and the pictures online looked good! But it didn't turn out quite like the picture online...

Anyone have a similar experience?

Buxton is fast.

Breaking news, I know.

It is for the Blue Jay's radio team.  Their play-by-play guy opined "Buxton can still motor".

Also, they are pronouncing Rosario like Rose-air-e-o.  In a game with so many Hispanic players, a name as straightforward as Rosario should not be a challenge.

Those dang Canadians talk funny, eh?

Depends on what she was hopeful of.

Ha! Canadians, eh?

My favorite part of this series has been hearing the Canadian National Anthem before every game.  Except for, ironically, today.  The Blue Jays broadcast did not play it.

I also will add my opinion on Garver--I think it's a larger trend with Baldelli that I am worried might be emerging.  Rocco seems to struggle thinking more than a day in advance.  With the amount of roster flexibility Gonzalez, Astudillo, Adrianza, and to an extent Cave give you, we should never need to have more than 2 of our 7 good hitters (Kep, Polanco, Cruz, Rosario, Garver, Buxton, and Astudillo) out of the lineup.

I invited a hopeful significant other over for a "home-cooked" meal. I made Banquet frozen chicken, instant potatoes and gravy out of a packet. Worked like a charm. Been married going on 35 years and I haven't had to cook a meal since.

I did the same--second date.  Other than I tried to make fettucine alfredo with chicken, and ended up serving undercooked chicken.  Somehow she didn't get food poisoning, and even more miraculously, still dated and eventually married me.

I’m not sure I count Astudillo in that group.

Pineda got Smoaked.

Rats.

Would have been a solo shot if not for that little blooper that Cron couldn't quite grab. Defense was fine on that, just bad luck. A shame to see Pineda pay for that.

No. Not really. I've botched other things ... dishes/desserts that I'm bringing to someone's house, but I've usually been able to 'fix' them to the point that no one really notices and it still tastes good.

Was this a first time meal you fixed for this new person? If so, the lesson is ... test it in advance or stick to what you know and don't try something new for the first time for a 'potential someone.'

Yeah it was a first time meal idea I saw on Pinterest... It was one of those "One pan dinners" that I thought would be slick so I wouldn't have to wash a bunch of pots and pans.

Should have known the picture was too good to be true!

don't use pinterest.

I usually decide what I want to make and then google the individual recipes. I usually alter them as well to fit my tastes. This one might be my favourite creation. That's blackened salmon with a home made bernaise sauce.... and of course Oscar style

Yeah I'm not using Pinterest again for meal ideas...

Sort of. I had multiple holiday dinners (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) in a row where the main course was not necessarily ruined, but shall we say didn't turn out as intended because of completely random occurrences. The "best" instance was a Thanksgiving where I tossed a turkey on my grill rotisserie. The rotisserie rod was a threaded two piece bit. About halfway through spinning, the rod snapped and the bird fell into the drip pan full of quartered baby red potatoes. No idea how long it was like that, but that side of the bird was pretty well done. The potatoes ended up with plenty of grease though, so there was that.

That Christmas was less random but "entertaining" nonetheless. I was grilling a beef tenderloin with a mushroom bordelaise sauce. I was using dehydrated mushrooms, but neglected to rehydrate them before putting them in the sauce. The sauce ended up being extra thick. It was still really good, just "a bit" more concentrated than it should have been. I actually wrote a note on the recipe reminding myself to rehydrate the mushrooms.

The following Easter I was plank grilling some fish. It was raining pretty good at the time, so I had a family member come out with me with an umbrella. Just as I pulled the fish off the grill, the rain picked up and a massive wind gust blew the umbrella out of my family members hand, hitting me in the head, causing me to drop the fish on the ground.

For the next Thanksgiving dinner, I apparently had learned nothing and tried to rotisserie the bird again. This time the motor on my rotisserie died at some point - again cooking the one side of the bird more than the other.

I haven't had any issues since (knock on wood), but I kind of know what you feel like. At least in my case, it makes for some good stories.

This makes me feel better! She appreciated the effort and didn't leave right away after (butchering) dinner! So that's good...

So you're saying there's a chance!!

That's good. Encouraging even!

One advantage that you now have is that you've sent expectations low. The first date with my now wife was at Applebee's. My brother took his first date to some fancy steakhouse. I told him that was a rookie mistake!

It looks like Pineda is getting stronger, bringing a little hotter heat, but the downside is that his command is suffering as he throws the ball harder.

Ooof, brutal inning for Pineda. Twins gonna lose 3 out of 4 to the hapless Jays? Ouch, not cool guys.

Clunker from Pineda today. Twins offense needs to do what it can to get back into this one. Can't go 1-3 vs Toronto at home, even if it is in April. If this team wants to dethrone Cleveland, we have to beat teams that are going to finish with 85 or 90 loses.
