I never saw Gonsalves pitch an inning before he came up. And I understand rookie jitters. That said I haven't saw anything whatsoever that makes me think Gonsalves is a MLB pitcher. That doesn't really bother me, and this is definitely the time to find this out. What does concern me, that if this was the best we had in MiLB, we are in trouble.

Sorry, but i just dont see anything with Gonsalves, But better to find out now ,

He got away with that lack of sharpness/command/control in the minors, but the major leaguers are punishing him. He goes back to AAA in 2019 with hopefully a good idea of what he needs to work on. I think there's something for a coach to work with, but it might involve a fairly major rebuilding of his entire approach, something along the lines of repeatable mechanics for better control - I'm no coach so I'm just making stuff up now. :)

The Nolasco/Myer for Busenitz/Santiago trade may be one of the worst trades in MLB history for both clubs.

Not one of them has done a thing.

At least it wasn't lopsided.

Has Berrios been “developed”?

Well, compared to the rest of the pitching we've produced

Boy, I thought in my mind at the start of the third inning, "hey, Gonsalves has been pretty decent so far", and then I just checked back in. Glad I didn't post that thought earlier. Yikes. For even Twins rookies struggling, Gonsalves is now setting the bar that was already placed very high.

By now, the Royals can get fooled and stick the bat out there on a pitch far outside, and wind up with an infield single anyway. Geesh.

When does the 2022 schedule come out? Anyone know?

2021. They may be accepting waiting-list applications now.

That's Smalley doing the color commentary, right? I don't think I've heard many of his games, but I'm liking his insights. He's made a couple of prescient observations this inning.

I honestly don't understand how our minor leagues have failed to produce so consistently for so long. All of our pitching prospects have been failures for like a decade, our "can't miss" prospects in Sano and Buxton are busts at this point, we can't even produce passable bullpen arms, let alone starters. What exactly is going wrong in our system and why has it not been remedied? I mean, I understand most prospects don't pan out and I'm not expecting an endless stream of MVPs year in and year out, but you'd expect with a large enough sample size we'd be seeing a decent number of our prospects at least be average players.

Echoing my last post, I cannot remember a trade more lopsided than the Aaron Hicks for John Ryan Murphy trade. At least for the Twins in my lifetime.

The JJ Hardy trade wasn't so hot either. Especially with how poorly the Nishioka experiment turned out.

We had a ton of talent come through the system in the late 90's/early 2000's (Hunter, Jones, Lawton, Koskie, Cuddyer, Bartlett, Mientkeiwicz, Ortiz, Pyrzienski, Mauer, Morneau, Baker, Slowey, Garza, Liriano, Santana, Perkins, etc) and a bunch of busts the past 10-12 years. It's still too early to give up on Buxton and Sano, but it doesn't look good. I'd bet on Buxton before Sano just because he has a wider skill set.

We chose Mientkeiwicz over David Ortiz. Then Liriano blew out his arm. Then Kubel blew out his knee. Then we traded Santana for a weak package of prospects. Then we traded Ramos for Capps. Then Mauer and Morneau had concussions. Then we gave up on Gomez too soon and traded him. Then we gave up on Hicks too soon.

We had a pile of assets, but blew it with a bunch of bad luck and some really bad decisions. Now our prospects are flopping. Dozier and Rosario are the only prospects who met or exceeded expectations over the past 10 years or so.

I feel gross after typing that. Feel free to mock and ridicule if I didn't list the things on correct chronological order, but it's close.

MIRANDA!!!! Very long 2-run HR. Miracle are up 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th

I didn't know Carmen was still performing.

I agree that it is too early to give up on them, but as it stands today, Buxton is a massive bust and Sano is a big question mark. I'm certainly hoping they both pan out, but with how much of Buxton's value is tied to his speed, he is only losing value in that regard as his speed and defensive ability have already peaked. The longer it takes him to figure things out, the more value he continues to lose on speed and defense. And with how much he's been injured and how reckless he plays in the outfield running into the walls, all it takes is one bad collision with a wall to cost him a step or two and he becomes a 4th outfielder at best unless he learns to hit.

With Sano, pretty much all of his value is tied to his bat, so if he can get that working, I doubt anyone is too concerned about his glove as a 1B/DH. But, it still remains to be seen if he can get that consistently working. Overall, they've both been hugely disappointing.

Nice comeback by the Twins to tie it up. Too bad no one is left to have witnessed it.

I bet, though, that when we give up some more runs, there will be additional commentary on the failings of the system.

G'night, all.

Welp.

I would say expecting Gonsalves to hold a rotation spot next year is a pipe dream. He might be ready for the bigs someday, but not someday soon.

The only thing worse than watching him throw pitches that miss the strike zone, is watching him throw pitches that don’t miss the strike zone. How was he getting AAA hitters out with this stuff? I mean, he was basically facing a AAA lineup tonight.

Brunansky for Herr was a doozie.

And the one that sent Graig Nettles to Cleveland for one year of Tiant and Stan Williams wasn't particularly successful either.  Granted that Williams had an excellent year in 1970, but then just kinda disappeared.
