Half an hour until game time, full tank of jokes, it's light, and i'm posting a game thread intro on my cellphone.

Hit it.

At least that is the advice i offer to the Twins line up.

Things to look for: (like in Highlights, if you grew up with that children's magazine... In retrospect, i might have appreciated Mad more, but oh well)

Good pitching.

Good fielding.

Hitting the cut-off.

Secondary leads.

Shifts... not to be confused with capslock.

Oh, and bad jokes.

and here is the fine print... aka lineups:

Mutter mutter...

You'd think the game would be broadcast in Columbus...

Or at least be available on a hotel tv.

Instead i watched a wee bit of Jeopardy, and was pleased to remember the Laughing Boy was written by JD Salinger...

Sano has been absolutely BRUTAL tonight in only 3 1/2 innings. 2 K’s (at the same down and away breaking balls), a wild throw into the camera well trying to complete a DP and a missed catch on a cutoff, which could have ended the inning. Instead that runner eventually scored. That’s a week’s worth of bad play in 1/3 of a game. Is he ever going to make this work or what?

Gibby's getting dialed in. Bert is loving him some Gibson called him the twins most reliable starter. Who would've predicted that?

Dialed in = 12 outs, 10 baserunners and 3 runs?

Anyone wondering why pitchers don't want to throw to Garver should watch tonight's game.

Gibson has lost at least a dozen pitches that Garver dragged out of the strike zone with poor technique and it has had a huge impact on the game.

Settle down that was from the second inning. Am I the only one watching this game?

I gave up after the first pitch. It was too much, I couldn't handle any more.

Suddenly I'm not feeling so good about reaching .500 by the end of the season. Or maybe "sudden" isn't the right word for it...

RISP
Twins 0 for 1
Indians 4 for 14
I'd say that just about sums it up.

4/14 is only .286, what's wrong with that?

Just mailing it in. Embarrassingly bad performances from a team that has just stopped caring.

They're not playing like a team with nothing to lose, they're playing like a team that expects to lose.

I am not sure how Cleveland scored on a line out force from the pitcher to the shortstop but it’s us vs Cleveland so it figures. I am watching Oakland vs Houston exciting game between 2 good teams.

Dozier up for the Dodgers - saw hit hit a home run earlier which was nice. Just grounded into a double-play. So he is his usual self.

secondary effects of the July 27 decision?

Ran some numbers regarding Gibson. Concerning to say the least. I would say it definitely suggests that any guaranteed extension is a bad idea. Go to arb next year and IF he does well go QO route. As others have mentioned, let someone else be on the hook for his decline, if indeed it isn’t already happening.

Prior to his final start in July, Kyle was one of the best pitchers in the AL. In 21 starts he had logged 129 IP, 106 H, 49 ER, 50 BB, 126 K, 13 HR. That’s 6.14 IP/GS, 1.21 WHIP, 3.42 ERA, .9 HR/9, 3.49 BB/9 and 8.79 K/9. In the 7 starts since if I did math correctly, 35 IP, 42 H, 20 ER, 18 BB, 27 K, 5 HR. That is 5 IP/GS, 1.71 WHIP, 5.14 ERA, 1.29 HR/9, 4.62 BB/9, 6.94 K/9. We’re talking 7 starts, that’s 1/4 of his season to date. We’re approaching the boundary of SSS and trend IMO.

It shouldn’t be fatigue. He certainly has logged more innings than this in his career. It could very well be that the league has adjusted to whatever change he made roughly one year ago. Now the question is can he adjust again? His career is riding on it. It also definitely puts rotation upgrade on Falvine’s to do list this offseason. Counting on Kyle Gibson to be a upper echelon pitcher in 2019 might not be a good idea.

Catching up on this atrocity on TiVo. Yet another reminder of what happens to an infield when your first baseman can't handle a glove was shown to us by Sano. Mauer eats that up and you have an out, and a great play by Astudillo. Meaningless in this game, but those hops happen several times a game.

Yeah, i wound up watching the inning inwhich we went from 3 to 7 down...

A bunt, the throw from right beats the runner from first to third, but isn't handled, and a ball kicks off the heel of Rosario's glove, then off his face...

No, not my favorite Twins moment...
