Twins | 41-49 overall, 26-21 at home, 6-4 in their last 10

Kyle Gibson | 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, 3.9 BB/9

Rays | 48-44 overall, 22-27 on the road, 7-3 in their last 10

Blake Snell | 2.09 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 10.2 K/9, 3.4 BB/9

Lineups:

Additional Notes:

The Twins have been playing well of late, but the Rays arrive at Target Field red hot. They’re on a five-game winning streak in which they’ve outscored their opponents 31-13. Here’s how weird the American League is in 2018: Despite being six games better than the Twins, the Rays are actually farther away from a playoff spot (9.5 games back in the Wild Card) than Minnesota right now (8.5 games back in the Central).

So even though Tampa Bay is four games over .500, they’re in pretty much the same position as the Twins as we head closer and closer to the trade deadline.

Darren Wolfson tracked down Twins GM Thad Levine and got some updates on Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton. Here’s the video on Twitter:

Grossman might be batting a bit high for my tastes....but Willians is playing!

Yeah, but when are we going to see him behind the plate?

Yes, I’m mocking you, sort of, in a friendly way.

I probably should have mentioned that Logan Morrison was placed on the DL with what they're calling a "left hip impingement" and Ehire Adrianza was activated back off the DL to replacement.

Hmm, I would have thought it would be due to a Left Swing impingement for Logan - thanks for the update!!  Grossman batting 4th make me a little uneasy but he has been hitting better lately and looking at the rest of the choices I don't see too many other options.

The grounds crew has rolled out the tarp. It appears this one may be delayed.

Yeah, I just beat the rain home. Heavy, but don't know how long it will last.

I’m at City Works on 7th and Hennepin and it’s monsoon season out right now.

Eddie Rosario lost out on the final vote to get into the All-Star Game, but in the end is he really a winner?

I mean, if my day job was like "hey Tom, you can either take four days off or we can send you out to Washington, where you'll probably have to do a bunch of extra work" I know what I'd pick. Then again, maybe things for a desk jockey are slightly different than a professional baseball player, I dunno.

Yeah. People always think it’s a bad thing when I’m not scheduled to go on tour with the orchestra, thinking I’m missing out. The only think I’m missing out on is jet lag and work.

True, but I’ve heard players with an all star appearance on their resume command bigger deals. I wonder how true that is.

Used in arbitration....plus, you get to be known as an All Star forever.

I'd totally want that.

Then again, I’ve been some places I’d never go to on my own because of work.

Left Hip Impingement? Didn’t I see them play 7th Street Entry in the ‘80s?

that explains the "speed" lately....

I’ll bet Rosario gets there as an injury replacement for someone.

Yeah, Morrison just got hurt ... Oh, wait, nevermind

In other news, Buxton got pulled from the Red Wings game tonight ... Wonder what that's all about.

It almost seems like he fouled another ball off himself.  The pinch hitter came in during the inning, but Buxton still got tabbed with a K.

Yeah, and you've been some places you'd never have gone to but, because of work, you had to. :)

... And Thorpe only went 1.2 innings and didn't get rocked .... That smells of injury .... Maybe that rain needs to keep going ... This doesn't appear to be a good night for the org.

I suspect (or at least hope) it has more to do with him pitching in the Futures Game on Sunday.

It was after 1.2 innings, and the play log does say injury delay.  I'm hoping with you though.

He threw 21 pitches to get those 5 outs.  Maybe he had a closest to 20 pitches out limit?

Left Coast Baby! Home of some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.

I just visited Vancouver Island for a few days, and I concur.
