Detroit announcers on the 2-strike hits:

"Paul Molitor must be going crazy in the dugout. That's a no-no."

I agree.  MoY has to be crazy to think he can get by the RPE and the ARE in order to get to the FRE.

Reed is now on pace to earn his 5th loss of the season.

Would this be a bad time to bring up reliever overuse or is that beating a dead horse at this point?

Having failed to give up a hit on the first 0-2 pitch in the middle of the plate, Reed repeats his effort, and succeeds.

I don't care if Kepler's scuffling with the bat ... get Grossman out of the field NOW. I'm embarrassed for him after that throw.

Why does Molitor continue to bring Reed in?  He's been struggling mightily over the last two weeks.  Give him some lower leverage situations.  Rogers has been lights out lately, bring him in!

Maybe Molitor will figure this out. One game too late.

It seems like Reed is a sure bet to give up 1 run in the 8th every other appearance.

And tonight it's 2 runs*. Cost us the game, yet again. He's been awful for 3 weeks and Molitor shouldn't be using him.

Terrible offense yet again for this team. Another bad game, this was getting old last month, nothing has changed. If Molitor can't motivate this group of guys then it's on the front office to start the youth movement and rebuild. It's time for one or the other to happen.

*Edit: make that 4 runs.

Wow, I would have never guessed Grossman had that strong of an arm!

We could really use Granite's noodle arm out there, it'd at least save us from Grossman's complete ineptitude.

Well, in his generation, the light bulb was great

I'm sure in his mind the game was flawless in his day. Unfortunately, there is too much data available on everything now that the game can't be and won't be played like that anymore. Gotta get with the times. Baseball evolves. The world evolves. The only thing constant is change.

Really, seriously, are we trying to win games this year, or using this season to massage some veteran pitchers' egos?

I am so done with MoY, and have been for a long time.

Maybe Falvine with figure it out, too.

This team is a mess right now, and the resources we have are not being marshaled well at all.

I was so afraid Berrios wouldn't get the win.  Another quality start wasted. Reed has been a disappointment this year.

Nothing falls but raindrops.

Yeah, the salty tears of Twins fans in the upper deck.

I have to wonder where on the list of reliever futility giving up 3 0-2 hits to three nobodies ranks.

Posted

1. What in God's name is Grossman doing in Right Field at this point in the game?

2. The probability of an inning like this happening is miniscule. All these hits happening in pitcher's counts with mostly good pitches. This kind of inning, under these conditions, might only happen once every several hundred observations. Unfortunately, that's just how things are going for the Twins this year :(

3. The Twins are going to lose this series (against a bad team) even though the White Sox are giving us a lot of much-needed help. This is checking every box of a non-contender/seller.

The Tigers' Victor Reyes was 2-for-17 with nine strikeouts after 0-2 counts this season, before lacing that RBI single off Reed.
