The return of the concussion light sensitivity symptoms from this injury is a real concern. They really need to wait until he has no symptoms. He could be out a long stretch. Sad to see such a fantastic career wind down this way.

 

He and the Twins need to take the return of these symptoms seriously.

Same thing happened to Morneau and it took him almost four months to return so I don't expect him back anytime soon. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Even Posey, a model of health and consistency, has played 150 games (exactly 150, actually) in all of one season and he spends 20-40 games at first base every year.

 

Mike Piazza did it twice.

 

Pudge Rodriguez did it twice.

 

Even the mighty Johnny Bench only did it four times in a wildly different era with different expectations and talent levels.

yup, and Sano spends the majority of the rest of his ‘18 season at first. LoMo and Joe can wrestle for DH at bats (fo sho)

Well...I guess the DH spot just opened up for Sano to nurse his hammy. Too bad it comes at the expense of the only strong OBP in the lineup.

Mauer likely to return this weekend

The news was better on first baseman Joe Mauer, who has continued to participate in full baseball activities without any issues over the past five days after being placed on the DL on May 2 with a cervical neck strain and concussion-like symptoms. There was some optimism he could return as soon as Thursday's series opener against the Indians, but Molitor said it's more likely to happen later in the series.

 

"Joe's still doing well," Molitor said. "He had another good day today. We'll get another chance to talk more extensively tomorrow than we have from the road. I'm still hopeful it'll be sometime this weekend."
