Seems funny to say worry about Rodney, did anybody really think he was going to be good this year?

 

You'd be surprised at how many people on this very site were telling us naysayers that we were overreacting to his signing and being anointed closer.

 

Also, closers are very overrated and an antiquated part of the game.

I wonder how long Molitor's leash is? Granted, pretty much the whole team is playing like trash, but still, he is not a good manager.

He's done a brilliant job of parlaying a couple of good months over the last three years into long-term employment.

 

I imagine it's longer than most of us would like.

Game completely changed when Morrison didn't dig out the throw.

 

I'm really getting tired of the "sacrosanct" DH late in the game, by the way.

 

It seems obvious to me that if you're going to use one of your best defensive players as a DH you best be prepared to give up the DH late in the game.

I can't believe that I'm saying this...but I can't hang this game on him.  I agree, he's not a good manager but aside from putting Morrison at 1B, it's not his fault that Rodney imploded.

Yeah, it wasn't meant to put the fault on him specifically for this game. I'd still like to see him gone though.

Could very well have been the difference between a tie game and an immediate loss.

I have been saying this since the 59-103 debacle and his defenders always rush forward. You can't fire the team. If they don't fire Molitor that says all you need to know about the philosophy of the ownership/management of the Minnesota Twins.  I predicted a while ago that he would cost them at least 15 games. Probably too low.

Winning manager of the year probably helped stretch that out and give him even more leash too. Watching national broadcasts and hearing them talk about how great a manager he is makes my head hurt.

Kyle gave the Twins a great chance to win and they couldn't come through for him.

Sorry, but I'm not putting this on Rodney:

 

Others have mentioned the lack of RISPy-ness and the unearned run resulting from the Gold Glover. Only then... 

 

1. Sano doesn't handle ball cleanly.

2. Sano rushes a throw he still has time on, throwing it in the dirt.

3. Morrison can't handle a ball that is scoopable.*

        *After just coming in as a defensive substition, when, as has been pointed out, it would have helped the defense to eat the DH spot and insert Mauer.

4. Trying to make up for it, Sano cuts in front of Adrianza to field a ball that Adrianza would have at least had a shot at. 

5. Rodney gives up homer.

Right now, the Twins are one of the worst teams in MLB. Longest losing streak in MLB, and they're at the bottom of the pile in the win column as well. Blowing games they surely had in the bank (Tampa, NYY).

 

It's afternoons like this that I have to remember that life goes on. Much worse things have happened to many people today. It's pretty sad that I have to reach that far to feel a bit better, but the Twins are really making me feel pretty low!

 

PS - For anyone out there giving the Twins a free pass today, I'm completely sick of the "Yankee Curse" talk.  These are professional athletes. There's no such thing as a "curse". I bet the Yankees or their fans don't have a clue about it either - they just see the Twins the same as they do the Tigers, Reds, and Padres. A crap team that's good for an easy victory.
