Theoretically, if a pitcher was good enough to play a different defensive position, I would think you could have him pitch the 7th, play right field for example in the 8th, and then pitch the 9th again.

 

I assume that would require you to either have a position player pitch the 8th, or lose the DH.

it used to happen with some regularity, usually for 1 batter, with the pitcher standing in the OF. With the money and the DH, much less common.
