Midre Cummings -

 

May 10, 2000, a game forever etched in my memory, I remember listening to the radio in bed (it was a school night and way past my bedtime) as the Twins came back against Cleveland from an 8-1 deficit. Scored 6 runs in the 7th, and then with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Midre hit a 2-run walk-off homer. I think it may be the moment I became a true Twins fan. For me that is one of my favorite moments in baseball. During that season, even though they lost 90+ games, I remember being convinced that 2001 would be their turn around year. I think most people laughed at me.

 

I wish I could get a clip of John Gordon's call for that one...

Foul. He was an all star I believe.

 

Funny thing, but unless he qualifies as a legend, Greg Gagne. Unless being in the Twins HOF is what is meant.

 

How about Paul Abbott. Be sure to ask Dan Gladden for his opinion on him.

I've got two more.  One is a personal one.  Paul Giel.  He's Winona's hometown hero in terms of sports. Two time All American fot the Gophers as a running back. He was a good friend of my father.  He passed away several years ago, shortly after attending a Twins game with my father and a couple of his friends.

 

The other is the end all, be all, top it if you can.

First game I ever went to at the old Met, he crashed into the LF wall making a catch and had to come out of the game. Still bitter that Mauch sat Carew that Sunday.

Tommy Herr.  One of my least favorite Twins because of his attitude.   I loved the trade at the time because one of the big weaknesses of the 87 Twins was offense from the 2nd baseman.   Herr had a nice track record but did not want to be here.   Not too long before I didn't want him here either.
