  1. Actually, Radke got the Twins closer to a World Series than Johan Santana ever did.
  2. Keeping your starting players sharp certainly isn't meaningless. I can't think of any manager who would sit his starters for over a week in preparation for the playoffs. It'd be nuts. Heck, the Dodgers have been playing meaningless games for a while now, yet Bellinger and Seager are still out there playing. It's a bummer what happened to Arraez, but that's baseball. Wrapping him in bubble wrap until October 4th was never an option.
  3. I'm not sure how one game negates the past couple months. Tough crowd, I guess.
  4. I don't recall anyone saying you had to proclaim Falvey and Levine the "best" anything, so maybe ease up on the strawmen. You said "with a little luck" Falvey and Levine would be gone from Minnesota, meaning you want them gone. Why? Providing an explanation would have been helpful.
  5. Exactly what I was thinking, Indy.
  6. I'm not sure the 2015 Royals had a starter better than Berrios.
  7. Ah, beat me to it. Yeah, if this is a bad front office, I'll take a bad front office all day long.
  8. Well, the team is on pace to win 100 games, so...
  9. I hardly think it's unreasonable to believe Baldelli may have been a little too bold in using Dyson in Miami, but I agree with you that it's ultimately on him that he hasn't gotten the job done. It's certainly on him to pull himself together. I'm still confident he will.
  10. You may have jinxed him.
  11. When Joe gets his #7 retired, he'll join #14 and #28. If I'm a new Twin, I'm grabbing that #56 before anyone else does.
  12. This feels like an end of an era for the Twins. Not having Joe on the team is going to take some getting used to.
  13. Dang, Grossman's taking a beating here. To be clear: Grossman has had a .371 OBP over the past three seasons and that certainly has value. That said, I'm not sure where he fits on the 2019 Twins roster, particularly at $4 million. All of the other guys should remain with the team, even the surprisingly pricey Odorizzi.
  14. I'm afraid poor Dozier's hair is past its prime.
  15. In terms of rooting interest, I'd rank them like so: 1. Brewers (since I kinda consider them the NL Twins) 2. Astros (respect the hell out of that team) 3. Rockies (eh, they're cool) 4. Indians (eh, I'm okay with them) 5. Braves (I'm jealous of all their young talent, so they're in the bottom half) 6. Red Sox (with that "let's buy our way to a title" payroll, I can't root for them) 7. Yankees (because they're the Yankees) 8. Dodgers (because they're the Dodgers)
  16. I agree Kepler has been a bummer this year, but the 71 BB at least provide a glimmer of hope. Maybe he blossoms like Aaron Hicks? One can dream, I guess.
  17. Astudillo will save baseball.
  18. In 2019, it'll be interesting to see if Tyler Austin (a somewhat similar player) ends up getting that 500 at-bat opportunity Vargas never got.
  19. I don't think anyone in professional sports - be they players, executives, owners, etc. - would get into their line of work without possessing some intrinsic desire to be the best. I certainly can't imagine any of them feeling disincentivized by seeing sell-out crowds. The Red Sox yearly attendance is always around 3 million, even when their team has been a dysfunctional mess. Clearly, their incentive to get better had nothing to do with crowd sizes. The Packers have had stretches where they were pretty bad (zero playoff appearances from 1983-1992), yet they've never had trouble selling out games - and they still built a Super Bowl winner with Holmgren, Favre, Butler, White, etc. The sell-outs didn't disincentivize them from developing a championship-caliber team. And if not showing up does indeed encourage change, the Rays never got that particular memo.
  20. Common sense and personal experience tell me so (I'm a die-hard fan of some sports, a fair-weather in others. You feel the "highs" and "lows" more acutely as a die-hard.) I've never been to a Twins game that I didn't enjoy - even during seasons where they struggled mightily. I've also never watched or listened to a Twins game that I didn't enjoy. I love the game, I love the team. So, I guess I've never considered them a "bad product" (these are people we're talking about, by the way, not a defective toaster). It's obviously your prerogative if you wish to no longer invest any more time/money on this team, although judging from your 26,000+ posts, you seem to have spent an awful lot of time on a "product" that's been mostly bad for the past 8 seasons. You do you, though. Me? I'll happily continue to support the team.
