John Kelsey Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Not sure how to embed tweets but Ken Rosenthal says the Twins are looking at Jaime Garcia.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Sounds like there's some real steam on this.
MileHighTwinsFan Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 So this is a rent-a-player with an expiring contract. Can't believe he would warrant much in return.
JustinCB Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Well, shouldn't have to give up much for half a season of that at least.
JustinCB Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 So this is a rent-a-player with an expiring contract. Can't believe he would warrant much in return. Great minds!
youngtwinsfan Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 So does this mean Bartolo is retiring? Or do they plan to move Gibson to the bullpen?
hybridbear Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Why? This doesn't seem to make a lot of sense...
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Gibson could get optioned back to AAA too, but I imagine Colon would be sent packing. They could cheat and use 6 starters for a few turns too, but it might be hard to justify, especially with 2 more off days this month.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I don't get this. Garcia isn't even close to 40 years old!
TKGuy Provisional Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 i like it, give it a whirl and doesn't mortgage future. Neshek now please
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Garcia's recent peripherals remind me a bit of Santiago's, with fewer HR. Also in the NL, of course...

Twins are more likely to skip someone than use 6.
olivia11 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Any idea what level of prospect will have to get sent to Atlanta for García?
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 This would be a good trade, won't cost anything big prospect wise assuming the Twins take on the contract (they should!!!)
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Any idea what level of prospect will have to get sent to Atlanta for García?Nobody we will miss. Low ceiling type.
hugelycat Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I like it, assuming he doesn't cost much (and he shouldn't). He's been pretty meh overall the past few years. But "meh" is a big upgrade compared to our #4 and #5 starters.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Nobody we will miss. Low ceiling type.Justin Haley would make all the sense in the world.
brvama Provisional Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I'm not thrilled nor disappointed, but he could provide some consistent backend rotation stability and innings.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Colon for Garcia? That's trading a lot of potential. Just ask Falvey and Levine.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Colon for Garcia? That's trading a lot of potential. Just ask Falvey and Levine. Whose colon?
gman Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Average fastball less than 91 and a 1.33 whip. Somebody else said it. Why? I guess he's an arm.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 This is just fine, shouldn't cost much. The long term worthwhile assets would cost far too much given how unlikely a playoff run actually is.
jud6312 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Might as well give them Melo ... Falvine seems to have no plans for him.
jud6312 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 LEN3 is tweeting that the Twins might get a 2nd player in the deal, so the prospect could be a bit higher than I was hoping. Ugh.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Good deal. He should be an upgrade compared to the AAAA darts they've been throwing out there in the #5 spot.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Justin Haley would make all the sense in the world. Not necessarily for the Braves!
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Paging Ben for his comments! Turn on the Ben signal!
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Not necessarily for the Braves! Why not? I think largely what Haley needs is a chance to get consistent work. That's hard to do with a team on the edge of contending. He might blossom, he might blow up. Seems to me the perfect comp for a 2 month rental of a mediocre starter.
