LaTroy will be a special assistant  with the Twins.  He will be in Spring Training and have other duties during the regular season.

After fighting to stay a starter, Hawkins gave in to the Twins call to be a reliever.  What a career!

I'll always remember how Hawkins truly emerged as a big-time reliever in 2002. I think he was Rick Anderson's biggest success as a pitching coach.

Trying to remember.  Pretty sure he was there last ST as well...

Yes, he was, and the article comments on that. But he will now have duties during the regular season and not just being a special instructor in ST. But it doesn't elaborate on just what he will be doing or how involved during the regular season. Obviously not one of the coaches, so not sure in what capacity he will be used.

I would guess an Assistant GM. There doesn't need to be only one. :)

You forget that some of these guys work out in the GCL, which is short-season baseball. And the Twins have a great complex there. Plus, players rehab there. And you don't have to travel much. If the Twins do have a pitching philosophy in place, it is always ncie to have roving instructors that can visit each minor league town, say twice, during a season to work with coaches and give advice to potential major league players. Yet still not have the grind of travel on the road that a regular coaching gig brings.

I can't see how it is a bad thing to bring back players who had long careers in the major league through hard work that maximized their talents. All had struggles yet reached great heights as players.  I have no clue if they would be great coaches, but they sure would be great resources. When someone who has talked to them about how to play baseball shares that conversation  there can be an informed opinion on them as coaches. They would certainly have a clue about the game as they never got by on talent alone.

Let's get the band back together

Can somebody please explain Gammons' tweet?  Am I supposed to take it that he thinks bringing those guys back into the organization is a problem?  I would think all of those guys have pretty good reputations, outside of Hunter's political views.

I take it to mean he thinks its a significant positive "block" in a series of blocks needed to reconstruct the Twins.

Building blocks, I think.

My 2 cents where they fit best: Torii in the clubhouse, Hawk in the front office, Cuddy in the broadcast booth.

I would love having Cuddyer on the broadcast team.

I know there are those out there who dislike former Twins being involved with the organization, wanting a clean break from the former FO and the past few years of the "Twins Way" of doing things.

But I, for one, have always liked and appreciated the presence and knowledge and experience of so many former Twins contributing in different capacities within the organization.

And really, the players mentioned here, and others who are part of the organization in their various capacities, were top players and many bring knowledge and experience from other organizational time and experiences as well.

I like this news.

Thanks, I understand now. I thought he meant it would "block" their reconstruction efforts. Couldn't figure out why Gammons would say that.

Can we have Michael Cuddyer bring back Baseball Unplugged? Seriously, he was good at that - sad that they don't have it any more. Great to see all of these guys back with the Twins!

Sour grapes from an old North Stars fan - this is what we lost. 50th anniversary, gone. Bringing back Broten, Smith, Bellows into the organization, gone. Statues of Godsworthy, Worsley, Broten, Ciccarelli outside the arena, nope.

I love bringing back the best of the old-timers and incorporating winning DNA into the organization.
