I'm no RB, but I'll see if I can come up with five things.

1.  The Rangers play in Arlington, Texas, which is located approximately halfway between Fort Worth and Dallas.  Fort Worth is sorta the St Paul to Dallas's Minneapolis.  Huge inferiority/superiority complex issues.  That makes Arlington, what...the Roseville of the metroplex?

Which is to say...Arlington is what you call, nondescript.

2.  I'm also told cold Ft Worth beer just ain't no good for jealous.  Maybe so, but it's better'n warm Ft Worth beer, I recon.

3.  Also in Arlington, Texas:  some football stadium named after the phone company ("One ringy-dingy Stadium" I think), Six Flags over Texas, and the biggie:  The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.  Don't mean to brag, but I really, really should be on exhibit in the HOF.  I'm being blackballed, is the only thing I can think of.  Don't get me started.

4.  Kyle Lohse is being called up from AAA Round Rock to pitch for the Rangers tonight.  As noted in last night's game thread, this is one of those things that just makes baseball so much cooler than other sports.  Kyle Lohse.  Is starting tonight against the Twins.

5.  I got nothin'.

If I'm not back from Mall of 'merica in time, someone please add lineups...thanks in advance.

A better comp for Arlington is Bloomington, I think. Also they used to have a ballpark there, so I hear, but now it's a mall instead.

Now you did it, Spin! Lohse twirls a three-hit shutout due to you berating him.

Geez, you're right! *forehead slap* Can jinxes be undone before game time if I delete my post? I'll do that and we'll find out.

Why is this listed as an 8:05 start on MLB.com? I can't remember seeing a regular season start that late... Well, maybe ever.

Perhaps because that is when it starts?

Maybe there some local hullabaloo they do not wish to overlap with? Maybe that is when the sun has set?

This is when night games almost always started back in the olden days, like before 1980. (Actually they started at 8:00.) Of course, that was back when games often finished in less than two hours, back before MLB mandated two or three minutes between innings for commercials, back before batters found out how advantageous it was to work the count, back before multiple pitching changes, etc, etc, etc. But my assumption in this case was that they are trying to allow for another hour of evening cooling.

Edited to add: there are no 8:05 starts in Texas on Saturdays for the rest of the season.

Huh, interesting. I didn't get into baseball until 1985 or so and always assumed 7pm starts were the norm once baseball moved to night games in the 60s.

Huh, interesting. Being in my 60s I always assumed everyone knew this.

Remembering the days of Bert 'be home' Blyleven.
