Would anyone do a trade of Nick Gordon, Kohl Stewart, Trey Cabbage and filler Lucroy and Will Smith trade?

Nope. No thanks. Lucroy is a question mark and Smith is a reliever. A very good reliever, yes... But a reliever none-the-less.

If you want a very good reliever, go buy one. It'll cost you less than $10m a year. No way am I trading an upside shortstop prospect and a flawed upside starting pitching prospect for a potentially broken catcher and a very good reliever.

It's certainly more of a realistic offer GACbaseball. I would still hold off until May/June to see if Lucroy can stick behind the plate, or if he has to move to 1B as a result of the concussion(s)

If Lucroy sticks behind the plate and shows that he is past his concussion problems, the price goes up even more... At this price, I don't think it'll be worth it for him. We should be looking for younger, high upside catchers rather than older, established catchers that require a lot more in return

For what it's worth, David Schoenfield just posted an article on ESPN mentioning possibilities for a Lucroy trade and the Twins were included:

"No, the Brewers aren't getting Byron Buxton or Jose Berrios, but the Twins have a lot of interesting prospects like Nick Gordon, Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco and Kohl Stewart. They could throw back Murphy or Suzuki (paying $2 million of Suzuki's $6 million salary to even out payroll) as well."

No chance we are able to dump Nolasco, or add Will Smith, without giving up atleast 2 of those prospects as well as other minor prospects. Would anyone do a trade of Nick Gordon, Kohl Stewart, Trey Cabbage and filler Lucroy and Will Smith trade?

That's probably a more realistic prospect expectation for them

Now I may have taken it a little over the top...but I could almost make the rationalization that that's half of my trade suggestion...with the unknown-ness of Lucroy (could be the reincarnation of good old #7) I'd throw Polanco in the package if it got things done...he's an upgrade over Scooter for the Brewers

Sub Polanco for Gordon, and I do that deal. That means your deal might be fair......I'd like to keep Gordon, frankly. Also, don't the Brewers have a SS prospect?

Take out Gordon, put in Polanco and Rogers?, and I'd do that. Not sure that's enough, frankly.

All those wanting to wait for more certainty......that increases the cost. Now, if TR was willing to pay that, it might be worth it. Does anyone think this FO trades a TOP Prospect for a 30 year old catcher? I don't.

Sub Polanco for Gordon and I'm much more bullish on the deal for obvious reasons.

I haven't looked it up but Bobby Kielty had to be in the Twins top 10 at the time of the trade.

Bobby had over 750 PA with the Twins, his prospect days were in his past.

I'd guess no, Ryan has never traded a Twins top 10 prospect. But, developing homegrown talent was pretty exclusively the name of the game in Minnesota until 2010 at which point the team quickly jumped into the gutter, a time where trading prospects would have been the worst move possible.

REVISED TRADE PROPOSAL

Matt Garza
Jonathan Lucroy
Wil Smith

Ricky Nolasco our bad contract for your bad contract and Ricky helps the Brew Crew get a better draft pick
Kurt Suzuki plus $3 million

Jorge Polanco (he replaces Scooter at 2nd)
Oswaldo Arcia Brothers Unite
Logan Darnell, Pat Dean, Taylor Rogers (who I would rather keep as LOOGY...MIL picks one or two)
Michael Tonkin he's gonna get picked up when they have to DFA him eventually

And thank goodness he wont.

Has Terry ever traded a top ten Twins prospect?

He has barely traded any prospects at all, let alone top ten. I think you can count on one hand the number of times TR traded a guy who wasn't already on the 40-man roster. That is what made the Jepsen trade so unusual (and refreshing to me, even if I would have liked to see another bullpen move since).

Would you take Lucroy over Suzuki (I'd take Lecroy over Suzuki at this point) ?

The Twins' starting catcher in 2016 will be Murphy.  And I would not take Lucroy over Murphy at this point.

He traded Hicks when he was shortly removed from being a top 10 prospect.

Shortly removed?  Hicks is out of options this season.  So about 3 seasons removed...

I don't want Lucroy.  I'd trade Cabbage for Smith in a heartbeat ;)

Add Buxton and that is balanced ;)

TOO MUCH

Nolasco >= Garza so that is a wash

Suzuki < = Lucroy and the concussions are a huge risk

Tonkin, one of the lefties and someone like Reed/Peterson (both blocked by better RPs) about right for Smith

So they need to see whether they can use Tonkin + Darnell/Dean + Reed/Peterson for Smith

I wouldn't either...but I'd take Lucroy over Suzuki for a year  :)

I think Polanco might be a decent trade chip while he has value and no real position given the SS/2B behind him and Dozier/Escobar at the ML level.  I'm still not sure Milwaukee and Lucroy are the right targets. I don't like going for Garza at all either.  He's on the wrong side of 30, and quite frankly he wasn't very good last year.  IF (and it's a big if) the concussion concerns are gone and Lucroy is back to being Lucroy, a Murphy/Lucroy tandem would be quite a bit better than a Suzuki/Murphy tandem.

I just don't see these teams as partners. Lucroy's value right now is pretty low due to his question marks.  If MIL is desperate to get rid of him, then yeah, go get him.  But I think they're going to want a return greater than say Polanco... and I don't blame them.

I doubt Milwaukee would trade Smith for Arcia even up, although those two are probably the key pieces in the trade. Yes, Milwaukee could use a catcher if they traded Lucroy, and Suzuki would be a short-term acquisition, although he would create problems, still, behind the plate. Nolasco  is so unwantable right now. Milwaukee would rather have someone like Gibson, I'm sure. Cheap and cheap in the future and will play for another season or so. You would think Garza would've worked out his usefulness (shades of Noalsco) but at the moment, he may still have a better upside.

But do the Twins still have to make an off-season trade? I think not. They have to go into spring training and see what they have and keep fingers crossed that someone, anyone on their team will increase in value because of (a) spring training play and/or (B) an injury on anotehr team that forces them to make a decision to deal with the Twins.

Yes he had been a regular only a short period of time.

For the sake of argument, let's say Lucroy never had concussion issues and/or we were guaranteed from a higher power that they wouldn't be an issue going forward....

What would you give up for him?

Arcia and Stewart?

Polanco, ABW, and 11-15 ranked prospect?

More?

Less?

Only way I see Twins getting Lucroy is buying on the low that he's at now...that fits the Twins MO (buy low and hope for recovery leaving the option to spin him should we be out of contention at tradedeadline)

If it's not a bargain maybe conversation leads to Smith? (A guy can dream can't he?

For one year of Lucroy? He's not that good

Two years of Lucroy.

And if healthy, he's absolutely that good. He's two years removed from finishing fourth in the NL MVP race, forpetesakes.
