TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Would prefer a bat but about time Achter got a shot.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 so May to the rotation?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Who gets the fifth rotation spot now I wonder. If Herrmann got sent down to play more, have to think he's coming up to start. No harm in trying it.
scottz Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 so May to the rotation? But he's not stretched out and he makes the bullpen better and Duffey was easily the best choice 4 days ago. But I hope you are right and the excuse factory has temporarily broken down.

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I heard the radio broadcasters mention that the Twins might use the off day Monday to skip the fifth rotation spot. If true, the bullpen would now consist of these nine: Achter, Boyer, Duensing, Fein, Graham, Jepsen, May, O'Rourke, Perkins.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Nine relievers. Nine. And two or three of them are awful. Wow. Just. Wow.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Nominations for who takes Fryer's spot on the 40 man roster? I'm hoping once Milone comes back it will trigger another DFA of Boyer or Duensing. But we'll probably just see Achter sent back to AAA....
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 How on God's green earth is Boyer not on that list? Holy hell!
Old Twins Cap Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Twins bench thin and thinner. Who would you pinch-hit for? And with what? So, load up hurlers in the Pen and see who has ammo left at this point. What else can they do?
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 When the options aren't great, it is better to give the manager more choices, not less. You are talking about the bullpen. The problem is there are only two bench options on any given night, Nunez and Robinson.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 The DFA of Fryer is interesting in relation to the dredged up Hendricks thread. Fryer was one of the people Ryan retained on the 40 man rather than give Hendricks a try as a reliever, and Hendricks had an option left.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 You are talking about the bullpen. The problem is there are only two bench options on any given night, Nunez and Robinson. And either Suzuki or Herrmann, no? Same as before.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I feel for Duffy, why throw him to the wolves (Jays) like that then send him down?
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I feel for Duffy, why throw him to the wolves (Jays) like that then send him down?So they wouldn't have to do something as utterly ridiculous as starting Trevor May? At least that's how I think they view it.
Captain Hindsight Provisional Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 You are talking about the bullpen. The problem is there are only two bench options on any given night, Nunez and Robinson. The bullpen is used in every game and more likely to impact game then a bench piece that may not be needed most nights. Strengthening the bullpen in the stretch run should have a higher priority then a lengthy bench.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Keeping Boyer and Duensing is strengthening the bullpen?

There's much less opportunity to write up a competitive lineup when the same slumping guys are playing day after day and have no one to fill in for them. Hunter has worn down yet the only other option is Robinson. It makes very little sense.

I'm at a loss for words. Having a hard time making myself hope for a winning record when not long ago we were all dreaming of a wild card game against the Astros or Angels. Just depressing. And school starts in 2 weeks and that means I have to go back to work...
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Weird. I have to think that the Twins are basically hoping for a couple of strong performances from their starters, then the off day, then some bats have to be coming.
