Buxton to Stay?

Nope. He will go to Rochester and be brought back in September. He needs to play every day and right now Hicks is the better player.

agree, but i see him in Twins Dugout

not an indication he's here to stay. If he's on the big league DL, he might as well learn what he can while he can. I still think Buxton's here to stay, but more because of need of a leadoff hitter.

He is on the Disabled list and will be till he is ready for a rehab, and after rehab(dont know how many games rehab is) they will decide whether to option to AAA, AA or keep him on the Major league roster.......while he is injured he is accruing major league service time.

We really don't know. First of all, Buxton needs to recover from his injury.  Right now, it's improving but not totally healed. When he is healed up, most likely he will go to Rochester or Chattanooga for rehab. He is allowed 20 days (IIRC) and if he is raking in those 20 days, the Twins may activate him. Most likely he will struggle a bit and the Twins will option him to the minors. This depends on both how Buxton is playing and how Hicks is playing.

There is no doubt that Hicks is playing better now than Buxton did when he was recalled. That could change in the month or so when Buxton should be healed up.

It won't happen, but when buxton is healthy I would look to trade Hunter. Torii looks to be wearing down a bit and could fetch a decent player in return, buxton vs hunter the rest of the year has a very good chance at being at least a wash when you factor in the speed and defense.

While Buxton is way better then Hunter when it comes to defense, the same can be said about Buxtons offense.

He struggled hit breaking pitches and he needs to master Triple A first. If I remember right, advanced stastics only had him hitting .220 some when he came up for the rest of the year.

Simply put, his bat needs work.

I'm in the camp that says option him to AAA until September. It was obvious he was overmatched or pressing (or both) in the batter's box. He could use some time facing AAA pitching. It's probably going to be close to August before he's ready to start playing again anyway and there's no reason to rush things. Keep in mind he probably wouldn't have been called up in the first place if Hicks hadn't gone on the DL.

I'm in basic agreement, except to restate that he struggles to recognize breaking pitches. He swings at things that I'm sure his analytic side would never attempt.

Trading Hunter would be viewed by the fan  base, the team, the pool of MLB players & Torii as a betrayal.  Because it would be a betrayal.  He has realistically done everything and more that he was brought on board to do, except retire as a Twin.  From his signing PC last winter until today he has been quite clear about his intentions.  He has held up his end, no way TR doesn't hold up his.  This wouldn't be the same as giving Thome a shot at the post-season to end his run.  Torii will go out on his own terms.

Putting Buxton in AAA until September also fits with this.

Buxton was not ready when he came up.  Option him to AAA as soon as he comes off the DL so we don't burn any more service time.  A side benefit of that might be that he would be eligible for Rookie of the Year next year.  See if he's ready in September.

I'd prefer not to use the option if they don't have to. In my opinion, have him use the full 20 days of rehab in Rochester and then activate him to the big league roster.

As for Robinson, I think he's here for awhile. Guys like Arcia, Rosario, Hicks, Buxton... they need to play every day. Robinson, as a 4th/5th outfielder can come off the bench for a start a week and to pinch run or play defense. That's his value, and he's pretty good at it. I don't want the other guys sitting on the bench. That makes no sense.

I think it would be better to put Arcia on the major league roster and Buxton in AAA than the other way around.

On top of all that, what do the 2015 Twins gain by trading Hunter? I don't see an upside there.

Scale back Torii's playing time? Sure. Rotate him to DH on occasion? Sure. Trade him? No, not so much. The team is worse without him than it is with him. As we head toward the stretch, that's what really matters.

I heard Torii had a no trade contract?

Hicks has given the team options in what to do with Buxton. As for Torii, it's not whether he will be traded, he won't be! It's whether they sign him for next year? They will! :(

I don't know that I agree. If Arcia and Buxton show enough during the rest of this season to merit roster spots next year Hunter would be the 5th outfielder.

If Hunter was willing to be a 5th OF, I would take him, but if not, hope he retires and you can have him as a coach, but i dont think he would go anywhere but to the major leagues to coach, and he would probably take a couple yrs off, as i know he has at least one kid, who plays sports that he might want to watch.

You trade Hunter to another team in the hunt for a playoff spot. I think not.

Buxton to Rochester, which currently is without a centerfielder.

Kepler is holding down center (except he just got injured and the Twins signed Shannon WIlkerson for the shortterm). I doubt that they will move Kepler to Rochester. But I see them putting Buxton there instead, with Kepler playing AAA ball next season.

Right now, Hicks is playing well. Robinson doesn't stink as the 4th oitfielder and can fulfill that bill quite nicely.

The Twins are sitting pretty with names such as Polanco, Buxton, Vargas, Arcia, Pinto in the wings waiting for a recall. It's ncie to have players that are capably of playing in the majors waiting and wanting for more.

Buxton is on the disabled list, and players can be in the dugout and travel with the team. I'm always surprised how that does work, that even minor league guys stay in the towns rather than head down to the great minor league Fort Myers complex where everything is and games are happening each and every day it seems.

You are always dissing Torii, and now I know why. You look at players as stats and numbers.  You have no clue how to build a winner. The Twins picked up Torii for the single reason that he is a winner and can mentor the kids. Likely he was one of Paul Molitor's first calls after being offered the manager job. Why oh why on God's green earth would you trade someone who was asked to mentor the kids just when the kids get to the big club? Not to mention that Torii is on pace for 28 homers. I want Ryan to sign him for another season.

What in the world would they get for Torii Hunter??

Right now, LOVE the outfield of Hunter-Hicks-Rosario. Great defensive outfield and one that is looking halfway decent offensively.

Stick with what works. This is working

Molitor has stated that he depends a lot on Torii Hunter in the clubhouse.

"I can tell these kids how to prepare for a ballgame, but they really need to see it from a veteran  they respect."

There are aspects to this game that go beyond the numbers.  We're dealing with human beings here, aren't we?
