I will say this.....he didn't pitch great...but he also didn't pitch poorly. Any and all sarcasm aside, isn't that what a SP is supposed to do?

This was the first time I think I've seen Nolasco pitch when he's nearly 100 percent healthy. He peppers the strike zone from different angles with cutters and two-seamers, then mixes in a big 12 to 6 bender of a curve that makes batters look foolish... when he keeps it down. I could see that pitch go a long way if he leaves one up. Maybe that's why Detroit's boys were screwing themselves into the ground trying to hit it. You could hurt your back that way.

If Nolasco manages to stay healthy, he could be good. He gets a lot of movement on his heater, and most of the time he seemed to keep Detroit's hitters off balance and guessing. I wouldn't call him an ace, but he could be a solid #2 or 3 starter.

During the current Twins offense barrage, anyone who can pitch to a 9.0 or below is a WINNER! But in the end, the law of averages always prevails!

Couple more good outings and his trade stock really soars. Could end up with a decent AA prospect at this rate.

Is this sarcasm? Nolasco had much better outings in 2013, without the big future guarantees, without the stink of 2014, and returned virtually nothing in trade to the Marlins.

I'd rather he has a 3.86 ERA from here on out. If he's 3-1, I don't much care what his ERA was.

You make the postseason on actual wins and losses, not what should have happened.

I'd rather he have a 3.86 ERA and let the rest take care of itself.

It's been trending in the right direction since he's back from the DL. Used to be 10+. It does take a while for those things to normalize.

For Nolasco in the AL, I'd say anything that stays under 4.50 is about where he should be. 3.86 would be really nice. Should still make him tradeable, if it comes to that.

Agreed, the first couple  weeks of the season skewed most statistical categories for pretty much everyone. Nolasco anywhere between 4.00-4.50 and I would be ecstatic........................................ok, well pleased at least.

I don't think it's a matter of wishing for what should have happened. You're right, who cares what his ERA was in games the Twins won, it's pretty irrelevant, but let's not kid ourselves that he had anything to do with the Twins winning those games.

For the good of the past, I like it when the Twins win even if the SP isn't all that......for the sake of the future, I prefer SP to pitch well regardless if the Twins win those 3-5 games or not......The ideal is that the SP pitch well, and they win.

Insightful, I know.

btw, I appreciate the OP's intent.....I miss Fire Joe Morgan.

I will say this, the stuff on display last night from Nolasco was very different than anything I'd seen from him previously with this team.  If that continues he might trend the right way.

Agreed. He looked like a different pitcher last night. Changing speeds, moving the ball around, and generally effective. If he can continue doing that, his ERA will drop to an acceptable level.

I tried googling it but I can't find a place that lists a record of what the pitcher did during their outing.  Anyone have a site that tracks that?

I was curious to see if Ricky was working backwards more than he had been previously.  (It seemed like a lot more off speed pitches last night)

Well, if he inspires his team to win, what more could you ask for? ;) Didn't Scott Diamond inspire the hitters to give him great run support?

Nolasco looked pretty sharp last night. He seem to have some good movement, and he was keeping hitters off-balance by working the corners and mixing in that extra-slow curve.
