From MLB Rumors (Oct 30):

The Twins‘ front office flew out to Torey Lovullo’s home in California to conduct their second interview with him on Monday this week, tweets Jason Mastrodonato of MassLive.com, but there’s still been no decision reached as to who will be the team’s next manager. Lovullo and Paul Molitor are believed to be the favorites.

The fact that they flew out to Lovullo's home in CA speaks volumes......

There really isn't a hurry, though it would be nice to have one in place by November 4, as I believe that is the first day that Major League and Minor League free agents can sign with a new team. I'm sure those players would like to know their managers.

Not that a lot of players are signing that quickly, but that's a nice date to target.

Depends on what wins out first., Lovullo's desire to be paid well or the desire to finally be a manager.

Yep, that's my take too.  They flew out to California and gave him a low-ball offer; he's found a way to keep the discussion going without his saying yes and without their saying thanks for your time.  The end result could wind up in either direction.  My guess is each side gives in a little and they get it done.  But if it drags past the beginning of next week, the team has probably moved on.

Give me a new manager, or give me death!

Well, as they will name someone eventually, you are saved from death. If you had said, 'Give me a new manager NOW, or give me death!' I'd have said, 'It's been nice knowing you!' :)

Well, the manager also would have say on the FA strategy, I'd guess, so sooner is better. Unless they are either going to ignore the manager's feelings on FA, or they are going to wait weeks to sign anyone.....

You'd think they know all they need to know about Molitor by now. The longer this drags out I think the less likely Molitor gets the job. Or maybe not, now I'm really confused.

Yes.

Intended to say something like this, found that Chief has beaten me to the punch yet again. :)

What exactly is the holdup? Are they waiting for an announcement time that will gain maximum exposure?

Is it a question of money? Is that speculation or has that been confirmed? Seth is the man, and he says there is no hurry, but to me this is somewhat embarrassing. All have had two interviews, and it seems to me that either no one has really jumped out, or TR can't make a decision. Really, it's not like the Twins are selecting a pope or something!

Well, they might want to talk to the now former Cubs manager, Rick Renteria:

I also think it might be a financial thing - as in, they may have tossed some numbers out to Lovullo and/or Molitor (without official offering a contract) and they are waiting for a counter proposal?

THe fact that Ryan is considering talking to Renteria makes me mad.

How can you not even give a call to Maddon to hear no, but you are going to put off your candidates for the guy who was fired to get Maddon? The, Maddon might have been too expensive so we didnt even pick up the phone excuse is BS.  If you felt great about your other guys then great, dont even think about Renteria.

I think Terry Ryan was going to get an earful whether he calls Renteria or not. There's really no move that can be made at this point that will go without criticism.

My guess is that Joe Maddon had designs on a handful of destinations as soon as he decided to leave the Rays, and the Twins were not on that list.

Well that really depends on if the front office bought their own tickets, or made Lovullo pay for them.  I hope he had a big enough guest room for them to stay in.

This delay in naming a manager has already resulted in a -3.6 rWAR unit of win thingies.

That's the Fangraphs version.  Baseball-reference.com still has us at +0.3.

You're right! Most popes don't last as long as the typical Twins manager!

We are now past the point where I am worried about why there is a delay.  If we wait until Thanksgiving I think it's less about being thorough and more about being indecisive.  We may already be at that point.

Well, I also think Ryan plans on limiting the new hire's input on FA so he thinks time makes no difference.   I still expect a decision this week, though.

Maybe TR is trying to get invited to Reusses Turkey of the Year banquet, possibly a seat at the head table. I am not sure he can take home the turkey bacon though? There seem to be an extraordinary number of quality candidates this year!

I'm not quite to that point yet. The Maddon thing threw everybody for a loop. Now that is settled and the Twins can move on decisively.

If they don't name a manager by mid-week, then I'll start wondering WTF is going on over there.

My only problem with that is that by most reports Maddon was never a "thing" for us - right or wrong or insignificant.  So I'm not willing to take that as some sort of game changer that pushed our schedule back.

We're past the WS now and if there isn't an announcement Tuesday (the best day typically to grab headlines, better than Friday or Monday at least) than I'm in the camp of wondering what they are doing.

"...wondering what they are doing?"  They are negotiating.  Issues:  Managerial  Input/Control, Salary, and Contract Length.

I feel they wanted a more committed attitude from Molitor. Compared to Dougy with his hit the ground running statements I think Molly came across kind of coy to the FO. Lovullo would be a good choice, but they need to excite the base and Lovullo is not going to sell one ticket unless his family pops for them. Hell, if they don't care about tickets hire Gene Glynn!

Tough decision time. Lovullo also could have Tampa Bay in his sights, now.

What do the Twins really want, and can they find a guy to play their game, that is the question.

Molitor.

Mientkiewicz in the learning wings as he manages in the minors (and maybe gets offers from elsewhere).

Mauer really in the wings...could come-in in five years or a decade.

Terry Ryan wants input into coach selection?

The Twins have to figure out their minor system. Looks like Jeff Smith may not be back. They need a couple of pitching coaches, a minor league hitting instructor. Is Sam Perlozzo still in the minor league mix. How many guys currently with minor league jobs could come north...2-3-4.

Someone will grab Steinbach, Brunansky and Cuellar if they don't make some decisions.

Well, it does take some time to negotiate terms so they deserve a little more time. I suspect they've already made their choice, now it's just a numbers game.
